Towing / Hauling thread.

I could have sworn there was a thread about hauling stuff with our trucks.
I must be loosing my mind.

I know someone has pics of 73-87 hauling a dozer or backhoe or something like that.

I had room for another car so I got one. It was a heavy load, but not as bad as hauling a full size truck on a heavy flatbed trailer.

JCampbell, how heavy do you think that Bobcat is? Did it pull ok?
Do you think a 3/4 ton would handle that?

Re: Towing / Hauling thread.

I think i saw 843 on the bobcat and is apox. 6200 lbs. depending on attachments.I pulled an 843 home with a bumper hitch trailer and felt like i made a big mistake.Used a 76 3+3 3/4. Took it back to town on my gooseneck trailer and made a world of difference.Felt like it was under control.

Indeed, it's an 843. Your looking at roughly 7,050 #'s (our New Holland LS 180 weighs in at 7,150 #'s). That particular trailer was a rental, but I estimate it weighed in at around 2000 #'s +/-. Our trailer weighs in at 2,500 #'s. So at any given time your lookin' at 9,800-10,000 #'s by the time you factor in fuel, chains, binders, tools, etc.

She pulls it with no problem, although I think it's a bit out of a 3/4 ton, SRW's league.

As it is, I always suck up a little seat fabric when some pinhead pulls out in front of me.

I love my tow dolly, it is so much lighter than the flatbed trailer.

Re: Towing / Hauling thread.

Kinda lame...as in no load, but it's still technically towing.

I agree, however my TD is about 78" wide at the fenders so it's tough to get a full size pickup aboard without risking paint. The good part it's rated at 7.5k. c My works much better after I rebuilt the surge brake system (new master/wheel cylinders).

Re: Towing / Hauling thread.

My dads truck, and its nearly identical twin. Dads is a 73 c20 350 nonair with the heaviest duty suspesnion you could get in a 3/4 ton, 4 speed granny low and we believe a 3.55 rear, and the 74 is a 350 nonair th400 with a 4.10 rear, and heavy duty rear brakes (around a 16" rear drum :wow Dads truck has 209 thousand miles, and until a month ago, had the orignal heater hoses, last winter we had to change the timing chain at 180k miles, and take the valve covers off since it pulled the studs out a little but, but other than that the motor uses no oil and still runs like new at 209k miles. 3 sets of points 3 water pumps an alternator and a few sets of plugs.
