Aftermarket Stereo Question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I am ready to install my stereo into my truck. I don't have alll the fancy tools so I was wondering what would give me a nice clean cut so I can install my CD player. I was going to try and get the new rotozip metal cutting blade but I was afraid it would kick on me. I bought some of the smaller metal jig saw blades and might try that tonight. Any ideas??

I have an air powered saws all that does great, but with what you got ,that should work fine, just make sure all the wires and stuff are out of the way. And put masking tape on the dash so not to scratch the paint.

we used a jigsaw to cut mine and it worked fine...just put tape all around it.

jig saw'd mine as well, just go real slow to keep the thing under control...

where did you put the speakers and has anyone have the speaker headliner and is there a cool way to put speekers in the truck without cutting the door

I bought the kick panels with the speaker hole in them--I will be putting kenwood in there--kenwood powered sub under the seat and maybe some tweets somewhere...here is a picture of the unit I will be going with under the seat...

Here is what I came up with. I made a new plate to sit over the factory hole. Unfortunately for me, the person who owned the truck before me used a beaver to cut the hole and made it too big. I used 3M double-sided tape to keep it attached to the dash so I didn't have to use any screws or bolts to hold it in place.

Oh yeah?! I've used the little nail file that flips out of the fingernail clippers! I've also used a "Super Ginsu-II" and guess what? It still cut a tomato like a razor through butter!

Seriously though, I've used Dremels, Jigsaws, Die-Grinders, etc. They all work well- it's just a matter of being patient and keeping the tool under control.

I've cut 3 like this, and they were all done perfect. The cage fit snug, the lines are straight, they were done fine.
I would actually recomend this becouse going slow and keeping an eye on your progress will result in a better job. A jig saw blocks your view, a cut off wheel can dig in and bugar up the paint and even scar the metal surrounding it if it digs in and jumps, (working in a recessed area here) a dremmel can (and likely will) shatter at least one wheel throwing bits of abrasive wheel at all the glass and your face...
It's just one man's opinion here, and a great option for someone who may have hardly any tools.

I used a dremel with a flexible head....made it very easy.
