Re: HEI distributors are pointless

I was born after the points era, but daily drove two 1970 Buicks (summer/winter... didn't care, was a teenager and they were cheap back then.) I ran them until the points started to go bad, then converted to Pertronix (late 90's/early 2000's) with a good coil and fresh wiring and grounds. Put 30k on one setup in all weather and never had one fail. I know they have a spotty reputation, I just had good luck.

But honestly, the points worked fine too. Buicks have oiling issues and I liked (still do, 20 years later) burnouts - a lot - so the rev limiter offered by the Pertronix was cheaper than converting to a box style ignition.
