Hold down retainer for Speedo Bullet

Well my 15 minute project to replace the leaking speedo bullet has turned in to a more in depth job. The bolt for the hold down retainer broke off in the housing. Now I have to figure out how to extract the broken bolt.

First, anyone know what size bolt to replace the broken bolt with?

Second, any MacGyver tricks for closing off the speedo bullet hole until I can get the broken bolt out and replaced?

Not sure what size youd need but you could check parts store , or lowes or similar for one of these to plug the hole off..
Was the old bolt already broke..? Or did you break it trying to remove it...
Getting it out may be simple or could turn night mare..drilling the center of the broke bolt and using a ease out may remove it...if its cross threaded itll be very difficult..

What transmission is this ?

If its an auto it would be quicker to remove the extension housing and replace it...if you do, replace the output bush and seal....

It broke off when I was trying to remove it. I've taken it off before, so it probably wasn't frozen. Could be cross threaded.

I'll start looking for one those plugs. Probably better than buying my wife a bottle of wine with a rubber cork.

Use the bullet!
It fits perfectly already. Wrap the tailshaft with duct tape to keep it in place and keep any metal filings out while you drill and use a left hand extractor to remove the stub.

Managed to back out the broken bolt with a left handed bit. The bolt is 1/4-20 for future reference.
