Flowmaster Ram Horn Intermediate/Down Pipes

So, after crawling under my new to me '71 C/20 I noticed my exhaust looks quite a bit like Swiss cheese. I would like to keep manifolds, at least for now, and build a cheap exhaust system to get it on the road and as a bonus not gas myself.

I found the Flowmaster 81072 2" to 2.5" stainless intermediate pipe set is pretty danged reasonably priced and includes most everything needed to get to around the back of the cab. Says it works with the angled ram horns, so one check there. Doesn't say anything about transmission compatibility though, I have a 4 speed.

Anyone running this kit, if so, is it of decent quality? And more specifically, anyone who can tell me if they will clear on a manual trans truck?

Why chance it, do it right!
Visit the muffler shop.
Gaurenteed to fit that way.
You’ve got two critical areas for pipe clearance.
By the starter and the clutch linkage.
No gaurentee that kit will clear either one.

I bought Heartthrob for my 68 C20. Fit pretty good but right tail pipe near the arm that locates rear from side to side.Had to dimple tail pipe.Glass packs that came with kit are a bit load but not terrible.Been two years and has been fine.

I may still go that way, I just know I'm looking at 200 to 300 for an aluminized system if I go that direction. If I can put together a stainless system for 200 or less with some sweat equity added, I am also happy to go that direction. I'm of the miserly kind.

I too have a new to me 71. I debated between flowmaster magnaflow. Recently decided to go with thrush welded. Half the price. I checked them out on you tube, and heard them at a car show.

I haven't seen any Thrush manifold downpipe sets or full kits, I will keep an eye out for them. Even if I go with the Flowmaster pipes, I will likely end up with Thrush mufflers. They are hard to beat price wise, even the nicer welded cans are very reasonable, and I've always liked their sound too.

Re: Flowmaster Ram Horn Intermediate/Down Pipes

Dude I'm sorry if you were looking for a full kit or down pipe. I thought you were just looking for an exhaust. My bad. Don't drink and forum post...

But yeah, looks like my. P.O. bottom out somewhere, so I'm gonna piece and exhaust together. I too want to get the exhaust away from the cab

As I have been working on my van, and new Willy's project. I have been keeping a eye towards exhaust systems among other things.

Summit racing sells all kinds of bends, and offsets to build just about what ever. If your handy with a welder.

Manual trans truck? If so I may be making an order shortly! Wish Autozone and Oreiley didnt exclude Flowmaster from their % off deals. CJPonyParts has the best price Ive found so far.

Went to school for, and did auto body for quite a few years so I'm decent with a mig and a gas axe. But need to either repair or replace my dads old machine and get gas, yet another expense. I also like having a well fit mandrel bent down pipe to start from though. For the meantime I will likely bolt on cheap cans or glasspacks and do 45s out in front of the wheels, with the intent of going stinless to the back bumper later on.

Re: Flowmaster Ram Horn Intermediate/Down Pipes

A downpipe/headpipe made for manifolds would work for either manual or automatic. It's with full length headers that you need to be careful with that issue. GM made one for all, so I'd think the aftermarket would be just as smart. But I do agree with Geezer on using a local exhaust shop to get exactly what you want. If it's about price, get a quote first. Could be cheaper at the shop.

I don't like the idea of piecing together a welded up exhaust from elbows and bends. Welds are where an exhaust likes to fail. The less joints the better. Besides, why do that when you can have a shop do it in lengths?

Who's the one drinking and posting here? Did you read the title or maybe his first post? Maybe try reading those, then apologize for your false accusation... Ey?

It's all good. It's pretty common for people to post without reading the original post, sober as a judge (well, not all judges)
