It looks so much better all one color. Despite some of the flaws you described, it's still a huge improvement...

Brad, and anyone else lookin to do this in a eco-sensitive area... the smell will travel, so if you don't have a paint booth... hope your neighbors won't rat you out. EPA fines can be a b!tch.

Hey Andy looks real nice. I think you need to put your GMC tailgate on it to give it that "finished" look. Latter buddy.

LOL... I know. I was thinking that as I painted this gate. This one is so craptastic it isn't even funny. The skin is almost an inch from the frame in a few places!!!
How much saw dust you got on the GMC gate now?

No more sawdust. I clean out my back shed and put it in there for now. Seems like I have soo much more room around here since I'm single again. Latter Tom

Looks real good Andy. Made that Longhorn really come together. Doesn't even look like the same truck.

Congrats

all the rules were broken that I learned in body school back in 1989-1991, but I didn't stay in the trade anyway. Great budget paint job.

I like it! I have been thinking about doing this to my 72 so I can drive it some. When I bought the truck it had already been sanded inside and out so for now it stays inside the barn.

Dude, the funny thing... there isn't much above the frame that was there when i got it. Sheet metal wise... a door and the cab is all that's left of the original truck. The whole interior has been swapped, the engine, hell, I did that twice, and another engine swap coming up... rims and tires...

Looks great andy. I think you can put regular paint over it after sealing it. Heck if big blue 72 shot urethane clear over it then i would say yes. The way I see it if you can paint over lacquer than you can paint over anything.

Re: back in black... *I slopped some paint on the 'ole girl*

Very encouraging, I'm planning on doing the same thing. 2 quarts?? that is a lot less than I was planning. This stuff has great coverage. That wasn't the inside of the bed too was it? Your right, it doesn't look good but it does look better just kidding. I'm in the same boat, all one color would make me happy too. Thanks for all the details.

cdowns can you give us the lowdown on the hardener and reducer. I have rolled on some paint in sections and it seems soft . It already got scratched by the lawn mower handle .

Re: back in black... *I slopped some paint on the 'ole girl*

I woulda liked one or two more coats, so 2 quarts is only what I went through... not a recomendation. And your observations were right, that didn't include in the bed. I need to POR the inside of the bed, and then paint it.

i just use acryilic enamel reducer 20-25% and about 5-10% wetlook hardner// i usually use hot temp reducer cause its always hot here but you match reducer to your temp// and if you want a little extra you can shoot rustoleum clear over it but you've got to spray that within a few hours of the color coat

Wow Andy, that looks nice! Glad you got back to having a flat black truck again. I haven't made much progress on mine. A little shift in priorities for right now. So are we gonna have an Ohio meet in the spring?

Looks real nice Andy. But I'm very partial to suede finishes. Now you need to flames it out or scallop it for that ol skool finished look. Oh and some real cool pinstriping too

ohio meet... man, if I had the place, we'd have a monthly meet. I have no clue when/where ... or even IF it'll happen again.

looking good... an old truck can pull over a not so great paint job and get a way with it... but it looks like you did a good job from here
