Nomaburban
Long time watcher, first time poster! Well my wife got tired of her 30 year old car so we got her a 50 year old rig this time. Was a much better choice for me. She needed something big enough to haul the kids around and take camping. This 63' fits the bill nicely. Had been looking for one for about six months until we found this one in a barn in eastern Oregon. 84k miles, all original patina, except those horrible white spoke wheels (what were people thinking in the 80's). She will also use this in her vintage resale business (Nomagirl Vintage). Plan on driving this as is until next winter and then doing a restoration.

The drive train looks completely stock, 305E and 4 speed, factory 4x4. Because its my wife's rig I'll need to convert to power steering and power brakes. I heard there is someone on this forum who can help with that.
 Some 17.5s with pie crusts would look excellent on this, but I suppose they will be hard to find in 6 lug.

Welcome to you, the wife and another 63 4x4 Burb. I've finally gotten mine home and on the road some.
PS & PB are definitely the way to go. I put an 87 front axle on mine for the disk brakes. Posted via Mobile Device

Thanks for the welcome. I will be trying some of Captainfab's products very soon. Mike, I like that disc brake swap you did on your 63, did it make a big difference in the braking? I went parts hunting over the weekend, had good luck on wheels but not the ones I needed for the suburban. Wish the red 17.5" were 6 lug.

oem, I found the 17.5's at a local used parts place (they didn't know what they were for) I need a 8 lug set for a long term project I want to restart. As I'm paying, the guy behind me says "I've got some like those at home but they look bigger and I don't need them." I'm thinking to myself, yeah right, but then he says "they came off a forest service truck". I say "I'll follow you home". Never thought I'd find a set of 19.5's, I love living in the Northwest.

StormKing, the disk brakes made a huge difference. I have a 66 C30 that still has 4 wheel drum and I can't wait till this winter to change them over. I just have to remember that it has all drums(power asst.) and be careful with how much pressure I apply and not lock them up.

Thank you. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. Not to rub it in, but these wheels are in pristine condition--the red is original paint. This goes a ways toward righting a wrong I did back in the early 80's. One of my other trucks (a fairly rare one), that I got the summer I graduated high school (1977), had a set on it. In my infinite twenty-something wisdom, proceeded to fix up what wasn't broken, sending the wheels along with other rare parts to scrap. I'll be paying for those mistakes for a while to come, but in my defense, it was the 80's after all.

Good eye oem, It was the spare and has a good possibility of being original. Its a non DOT 7-17.5 US Royal Fleet Carrier. I'm going to use it as a display in my shop along with the spare 19.5 tire. The date code is E 12, 1955 or 1965?
