Re: 1968 K1500 V6 Farmer Green

The Cab is on, and sealed up.... no its not perfect but it is on the truck and the windows are closed and the rear window was installed.... it was 18 balmy degrees with lake squalls but its on... the right cab corner looks like its a tad low... I wont know till i replace the rocker.... crossing my frozen fingers....

Re: 1968 K1500 V6 Farmer Green

considering we measure snow in FEET in the lake effect bands im happy... the cab had 7 inches of snow in it already... blew it out with compressed air. once i install the heater and plug the harness into the plug on the firewall she should run... and i can work on the inside with heat... LOL by monday the thing should be half buried.

Re: 1968 K1500 V6 Farmer Green

the roof of the green cab was shot.... literally broken (well rotted thru) above both doors... the lift off was the final kiss of death... only thing i want to salvage is the dash center, and over the last year someone scarfed the radio delete plate...
the blue cab has the custom radio install hack job.. i dont think im gonna put tunes in it as it really doesnt matter... and commercial radio sucks...

Re: 1968 K1500 V6 Farmer Green

well I spent 2 afternnoons this week on the truck sunny but a crisp 21 degrees, hard to work all day when your fingers dont work well
I got the heater system installed... took the core home and cleaned it and had to re solder the outlet. replaced the control and cleaned and lubed the fan switch... its all in and wired. cleaned the instrument panel including bulbs and contacts,,, all circuits rest out a OK.
Removed the right exhaust pipe from the manifold and had my mechanic bend me a brand new one.... since the old one was rotted. yet to install
installed the clutch rod, petal and suck only to discover im missing the wedge nut that goes into the fork...
Installed the column after replacing a worn out rag joint... discovered the steering box has about a 1/4 turn of slop... the steering output shaft moves up and down as well as in and out... time to find another box... or rebuild or get a rebuilt unit
since its a 71 cab im retaining the parking brake from it... my cable works just need a couple things to attach it to the petal assembly...
I snagged some rustoleum hunter green to paint some areas in the cab i repaired prior to putting my replacement tank in...
the green is a little greener than the OE code 505 paint... wish it was a perfect match... you can see it on the drivers kick panel and drivers cab corner.
day after our "snow storm" leaving a nice 14 inches of white fluff...

Re: 1968 K1500 V6 Farmer Green

OK update time... I am Parting a solid 69 2wd C1500 It is supplying a nice set of OE fenders, tail gate, and maybe a cab... I know i already swapped a cab but.... call me crazy but this one is solid other than the floor supports need replacing...
I have no issue with cutting the floor to accommodate the the high hump... I know its crazy but.... Im snagging a complete solid cab with doors and interior for 500 or less. and the cab / doors will match the fenders... too bad it doesnt have a 67-68 hood. one bed side is fix able the pass side isnt. but would be good for a beater I guess...

Heres the latest discovery... the manual steering box is sloppy. (1/4 turn) play. the sector shaft moves up and down and in and out in the case.

Simple fix. Locate a nice used one... ( anybody have one? contact me)

PITA fix Locate a PS pump and bracket assembly and swap the manual box for a PS unit.

any thoughts suggestions? let me know....

Re: 1968 K1500 V6 Farmer Green

got the front assembled and wired... all the linkage etc all set found a better grille in the yard since the white one was deformed from prior use. fisher plow is off...
ready to remove the box... I will assess if it is worth putting bed sides on it or replacing it... I have a long step but since the VIN indicates its a fleet.... i might not use it..
I could use some help locating a steering gear rebuild kit or a good replacement.
here are some pics with the new fenders...

Re: 1968 K1500 V6 Farmer Green

I got her started! after checking wires on the points connections...she came to life....
I am working on a new throttle cable assembly for it since its a 71 cab/ petal. i need to shorten a stock cable, since i looped one to the throttle bracket and it binds due to the tight radius... the instrument panel lights up nice after cleaning it and the "generator" light is on... i am contemplating a 10si upgrade to eliminate the regulator...

Re: 1968 K1500 V6 Farmer Green

she is grumpy and full of groans, creaks and odd noises, but i took her out in the yard for her maiden voyage after yrs of sitting and neglect. Popped a straight lt green hood on her. finished fabricating a custom throttle cable... and hooked up the t case lever. next up... greasing the girl. remove the bed to replace bed sides... bend and install new brake lines... rebuild each drum brake and install the master.
More pics...
