Re: 1960 GMC K1000 4x4

Once upon a time I was driving my wifes first 72 LeMans that she had not seen yet after I had picked it up for her, and had a similar incident.

I was coming up and over an overpass that was icy in Oklahoma...car in right hand lane lost control and smashed into right side bridge retainer wall, which swung his rearend into the front passenger side of the guy in left hand lane.

I was coming up on them at a good clip, tried the brakes enough to realize there was no traction at that speed, so I aimed for the widening space between the two cars, and by the most narrow of margins I slipped right between them !!

I was the most impressive bit of driving that I can even lay claim to, well.... other than almost bouncing a car side ways at 90mph... but that is another story, and one revealing of personal youth and stupidity. LoL

Glad you made it out Ok, and no one got hurt !!!!
Hope you didnt mind my little story there I likes to share sometimes !!

Mine is Cape Blue according to the paint charts I got. They are for GMC only though. I think the Chevy one is Sea Foam Green? I may be wrong on that though!

See post #237.

Re: 1960 GMC K1000 4x4

Well sadly the t case is following suite with the trans its main shaft that the trans hooks to is getting a nice wobble in it. My guess is its toast or do you guys think a replacement of the barrings would do the trick? My favorite thing about this truck is the org drive train i would hate to just stick a married t case in there.

are you talking about the yoke on the t/f case? the yoke is bolted on, maybe loose?

no its the shaft that the yoke bolts to, when i did the drive lines i torqued all the yokes because they had been put on with a chisel and hammer lol...

Re: 1960 GMC K1000 4x4

So I figured out that it's the bushings causing the movement in the t case.

Re: 1960 GMC K1000 4x4

Well the t case is defiantly shot lol... took her for a spin today and you could hear she was getting pissed off. started heading back home come to a stop sigh and no go when i let the clutch out i get out jump under the truck and i could pull the main shaft straight out of the t-case and have oil gush out. Haven't looked at it since i got back home 3rd tow in this ***** so far!

I have a NP 205 divorced dodge transfer case anyone see any reason i couldn't set that bad boy up under there?

Re: 1960 GMC K1000 4x4

Pondering toughing a carrier bearing in there as well i'm tight on cash more then ever right now. That would get her moving down the road again and i could then have the org trans and t-case on the floor to rebuild when i get some money flowin! You guys think i would notice a mpg improvement with that old beast of a 221 outta there?

Re: 1960 GMC K1000 4x4

You outta buy yerself a crate engine 250 and bolt all your GM parts from the 230 onto the crate engine...like..Valve cover..side covers..intake and maybe even update to headers...then your ol 64 GMC can live again!
Edit. I subscribed to your youtube channel.
