Pic Thread: Police Vehicles

I've put up a lot of 'Pic Threads' with various subjects over the years, but it's been a good while since. I got this idea and I think it'll be a good one. I'm mostly thinking older and the cooler vehicles here, and I'll start it off with Maryland's finest Put up what you have. Let's see your state. I have others but I'm running through my state first

Was that your cruiser?

how about that '50 Ford with the red flasher in the grille center?

That last one of the crew Cab was the DOT mobile weight and inspection unit before we had our weigh stations in place

Re: Pic Thread: Police Vehicles

The 1964 Olds 442 with 4 spd was available with a police pursuit package though I don't know that Arkansas had any.
An older ASP trouper told me and some friends back in 1963 and 64 Arkansas had 2 Chevy SS409 pursuit cars, dual quads and 4 speeds. So far I'm not having any luck finding pics of early 60's ASP cars.
But now days you just don't know what kind or color of car or suv to look out for. They are driving many different colors with many unmarked units.

Re: Pic Thread: Police Vehicles

^ I remember back in the '70s where the Newhall, CA CHP office had a Z28 to use for pursuit on the Grapevine (5 freeway between Newhall and Bakersfield). I knew some guys who tried to outrun them, but Motorola is hard to outrun. Those mid-'70s Chrysler 400s were some real dogs, and had to have the muffler removed to get above about 110 on the freeway. That Z28 was the real deal for catching speeders. I got 143 MPH out of my '69 Camaro, but they could beat that...big ticket time.

I don't know why they would want a 4spd in a police vehicle when they need a free hand for the mic.

Did you see the badges on the '66 Biscaynes I showed?

Maryland has their traditional paint scheme which I really like. They've tried to venture away to something new but always seem to come back to the original

I'm working my way through the years. I'm not sure if they still run the Caprices, but those are click looking cruisers

Well as far as the 442 is concerned, it's "4 barrel, 4 on the floor and dual exhaust". I don't know that the early ones were available with an automatic yet. I think I have a pic of a brochure here. Check option B09 for the police package.
The early SS 409 Chevys may have been only 4 speeds too. I just don't remember.
Those Biscayne fender badges look like 396 "TurboFire" to me.
