Wanted: 4-speed (or a 5-speed)

I'm looking for a Saginaw 4-speed in the Kansas City area.

Thanks,

Jason

Sorry, I guess I should be more specific. I need one that would have come out of a mid-60 to late 70's passenger car.

This may help identifying a Saginaw. The most obvious difference between the Muncie and the Saginaw is that on the Muncie, the reverse lever is located on the tail housing whereas the reverse lever on the Saginaw is located on the main case.

Well, I went to look at a couple 4-speeds last night and turns out they were 3-speeds

So I'm still searching. I would also entertain the idea of a 5-speed out of an s-10/camaro/firebird.

Gonna hit the junyards again this weekend!

I remember a friend who had a 79 camaro in the 80's and he went through those things all the time. put in a T5 and it lasted even less. Of course he was a teenage then but the motor was still a 3502bbl. I'd look for a borg warner or muncie.

Ive got one out of a 68 elcamino but not sure it was original to it . Also got the hurst shifter to go with it. Only problem is I'm in detroit maybe too far away.

I had a saginaw 4-speed behind a 402BB and it held up just to an ocassional beating. I'm looking for a 4-speed to go in a '56 Chevy wagon behind a mildly built 350, so I'm not too worried about it not being strong enough. I'm just trying to get the car on the road on a tight budget.

Well, I plugged in some numbers on Fedex.com (and guessed at weight and package size) and came up with about $21 to ship it fedex ground. That was assuming 60lbs in a 30x16x16 box??

So I guess it would depend on how much you want for it. Are the gears in good shape?

I've never had it apart. Its been sitting since 1987 with lube in it. I had it behind a 350 V8 and it wasn't a problem. But as I said I have no idea on the condition of the gears but the previous owner had it rigged to work with a 3speed shifter when I got it. Anybody know what its worth???.

I see them going for $100-150 range usually. I guess it would be a good substitute for a while. I know saginaw 3speeds are known for being tough. I don't know how much difference between them and the 4speeds however. I know alot of dirt track racers use the 3speeds in roundy-round cars.
