Putting the body back on? Need opinions and suggestions. - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I'm going to start putting the body back on this weekend. Heres the main hurtle. My orginal tub was of course mostly holes, hehe. Too far gone to repair. The front part (windshield frame and floor boards were alright). I couldn't find a complete tub at the time. I ended up with a back half of a tub in good condition (the bed). Heres my plan to get it back together and straight. Set the front and rear half on the frame with body mounts left loose. Put on the top, doors, core support, fenders, and hood. Bolt all the body parts down tight making sure all the lines are straight and even. Leave the body mounts loose but making sure its all sitting down flat. Climb in through the rear and weld the two halves together. Next weld in some new floor board pieces and the rockers. Then weld in the new rocker boxes I got from Tim Christian (thanks for the awesome deal Tim). After its all done I get to take it back apart for paint. I need your alls suggestions and opinions, the more the merrier. I want this thing to turn out nice so what do yall think? Here are some pics to give you an idea of what I've got.

It's supposed to rain all day tomorrow but if you need some help Sunday, I could come up and bring a template in blue.

Huck that is funny stuff, still laughin'. Would you bring it out for a template or to make me jealous or motivation, hmmmm. HaHa! I'll be out there around noon Sunday, KY time. Extra muscle is always nice.

It'd make a good picture, your blazer, Jamie's blazer, Renee's truck, and my half a blazer, hehe.

I am right in the middle of putting the body on my frame.

I started by putting the bedfloor on the frame using new rubber mounts.
Then I attached the rocker boxes to the bulkhead thingy and the bedfloor, then I welded the cab floor to the bulkhead, then I welded the rocker boxes to the cab. Then I put a bedside and door on to check if it fits. So far it seems like its a good way to do it but I won't know for sure till I am done. I did have a couple of frustrating days while I was trying to get my door to close but I have shimmed the body mounts and now everything is fitting like nicely. Basically the rocker box assembly on each side brings the whole truck together. Bolt everything to the rocker boxes then see how it sits then weld.

, although it is kinda hard to see out the windshield when the front tires are 4 feet off the ground.

Gee-Emm, thanks for the info and pics. They help. Could you tell me what body mounts go where as far as thickness. I have a complete poly set and no instructions. There are four thick ones and eight thin ones. Of the four thick ones two are smaller in diameter then the other two.

Best way to describe it is to take a pic of the good ole LMC catalog. Take note of the shims on position #2 mounts All 8 of the flat ones go on the back bed area.
