Re: Crossing over, the 65 rebuild.

It looks sweet outside. We did a tri stage GM Cadillac white and omitted the called for pearl and subbed it with reduced 1/2 orange 1/2 gold.

Whatever you did it looks great!! I had a feeling it wouldn't take you long to play with this truck.. And you are doing the full side trim & bagging it??? COOL!!!
The Suburban is still kick ass !!!!

Have fun

Re: Crossing over, the 65 rebuild.

Thanks guys!

I like to tinker on my lunch hours, after work for 2 hours and my wife gives me one day a weekend to do "guy stuff". I break down each project into 1 hour or 1/2 day or 1 full day jobs. Its the only way I can ever get something done and feel like I have completed a project. I used to blow everything apart Dino style, but life gets in the way and I dint have the tools or patience that kat has.

My next big project is to install the air system from Borris a piece at a time while still driving the truck to work and back. I will start with the bed lift on a weekend day,the notch the next then Ill install the gauges and switches then the tank and compressor over a few lunch hours and evenings after work. Ill then run the lines and secure them. Swap the rears in and schrader them. Wait for a weekend day and do the disc, spindle front air bag set and schrader them too. Once I have everything installed as their own small piece of the system, I will spend an evening hooking it together and lay it out!

The side trim should go pretty quick with a couple extra hands. I'm going to 3M tape it, build a thin spacer and retape that for the right thickness. Lay it out with masking tape, shoot the inset pearl white pull the tape and slap on the moldings.

The wheels should be back from powdercoat tomorrow and ill play around with caps and trim rings for a couple hours.

Re: Crossing over, the 65 rebuild.

Thanks Captainfab...the steering bracket arrived already!

wheels came back from powdercoat and had some 235/75/15 tossed on today. So far its sitting with just some dropped coils. Blacked out the grille background and reinstalled the grille. LT1 came up and dropped off the windshield trim and I got that polished up along with a Deluxe steering wheel. I polished the ring, cut and filled the cracks, primed it, sealed it, base coated pure white and the clear is drying now. Time for a nap and some nachos

Re: Crossing over, the 65 rebuild.

I tried to throw a little bling in the clear for the steering wheel. Found 2 huge runs and it puddles the pearl. Oh well, I LOVE sanding......not! Back at it tomorow. Hope to fix it early enough to instal it tomorrow night. Installing the front and rear glass Monday and going to buff the truck.

I love the truck and if it turns out anywhere close to as nice as your Burb, and I expect it will, It's going to be a head turner for sure. I'm following this one.

Re: Crossing over, the 65 rebuild.

Reshot the wheel this morning, hung a new rear bumper and parked it inside for the windshield guy tomorrow morning. This is our estimating bay at work that I cleaned up and hung some signs.

Re: Crossing over, the 65 rebuild.

The final details have really added to the overall beauty. The steering wheel looks way better than brand new. Nice job!

Re: Crossing over, the 65 rebuild.

Got tired of looking at the former 3 on the tree auto nub sticking out of the column bowl....so I shaved it today. resprayed the column covers, visors etc.

.
Assembled and mounted the steering wheel from painting it yesterday and pulled the cluster for an overhaul. Reasembled and looked good, but the glove box had too much orange and no balance.

Re: Crossing over, the 65 rebuild.

I like the direction you are going with your truck...
I originally thought there could never be too much orange, but with the changes you've made consider my mind changed...
Dang, now I gots to rethink my paint scheme...

Thanks!
I have found that base/clear seems to wear better over several years than single stage. It also stays shiny vs. dulling out like single stage, but single stage looks more period correct. Shhh don't tell anyone I used Aluminum tape for HVAC systems for my cluster mod It looks better than the "bumper chrome" spray bomb I think.

Re: Crossing over, the 65 rebuild.

Didn't get too much done on the truck today. Picked up my Mar-K order, unwrapped it and am very impressed with the moldings and their tailgate. I layed it all out and wow, nice stuff. I had originally bought a gate from LT1 on my way back north from cali, but with time to repair it, a hinge and stay kit, latches etc. I was only a hundo or so away from a new one with hidden handle latch, new stays etc. I did fill all the spot weld holes and am giving it the smooth look. They are stamped with the stepside font so it looks kinda cool in a different way.
Tomorrow I'm going to layout the moldings o n the truck, mask it for paint between them a nd hopefully rock them out this weekend. Windshield still not in. Its sitting waiting with trim installed for the installer ;(
