This is exactly the type of writeup I needed to get me going. I've been having HPTuners for 8 years and have been too scared/confused to commit to it. I've been paying for tuning that whole time haha. Well, my guy has hung it up and retired from tuning, so I stumbled across this thread at the perfect time. Thanks, Gregski, you're the man. I've just pulled the file from the pcm/motor I have for my next swap and already feel like I've got it to the point it's ready to fire.
