Re: Tonneau Covers

For the money, these are hard to beat. I've had one on my 72 since March and it's still tight and looks good. The one problem I had was not latching it and leaving the rear of the truck facing north. The wind had blown it open and over the cab! Oddly enough no damage was done... http://www.crafteccovers.com/1967-72...-Bed_p_15.html

Re: Tonneau Covers

The world of marketing improperly calls the bed covers/hard cover/truck lids tonneaus. It's a case of the blind leading the blind. When you say tonneau you are talking a fabric snap on cover. The first tonneaus were made for roadsters to use in place of a top to protect the interior and keep driver warmer by having a zipper down the middle so the passenger side remains covered. They were first used on carriages, then open cars. When pickups started getting customized these were adapted as bed covers. Not until recent years could you buy a store-bought one, which will be a frame mount. Before that they were a custom item made by upholstery shops.

Is that what you want, or do you want a bed cover?

Gaylord's is the Mack Daddy of hard covers going way back. They call theirs Truck lids or truck tops, just like cars have truck lids. They started in the '50s doing custom upholstery, including tonneaus, which led to them making the first fiberglass truck tops.

I agree Gaylord makes the best hard cover non folding bed/tonneau cover.
