What do I have to do to put a set of 1999 Chevy truck 60/40 bench seats in my '68? Who's already done this?

Put a '96 in my '67. they fit fine. The only thing i had to do was mark and drill mounting holes for it. If you can stand it sitting a little higher you can have someone make a bracket out of square tubing that you mount your seat to and then drill that bracket to mount to your original holes in case you ever want to put the old one back in and not have all those extra holes for looks and to let water in through. You can silicone the extra holes up if you decide to drill. "Dry fit" to see which one will work best for you. Hope this helps. Good luck.

A guy just told me that you have to remove the gas tank behind the seat to put in a late model 60/40??? Does anyone know if this is true not true?

any seat will fit, it is just a matter of making mount ho,e for it, and dont just drill a hole through the floor, make sure you add a nice piece of steel to the bottom of the cab, to distribute the weight and to make sure the seat doesnt break out if you get in an accident, and the seat will eventually cause fatigue cracks on the floor pans

I just closed a deal on a pair of '99 60/40's in grey for $450... I thouht it was a pretty good deal!

Yes ; I still have the tank behind the seat, I,ve got a tilt wheel and also a later model 14" steering wheel .This is one of the most comfortable seats around .

Im 5"11" if you are over 6' it may be a problem ,this seat raises you up a 1" or 2" and the back pushes you forward a bit. JMO

i have also been thinking about doing this. with that price range it's going to the bottom of the list as i already have a nicely redone bench seat. Gotta say it looks great though!

These are from a 2001 GMC Sierra. They are not 60/40's but they were very easy to install and the seatbelts are already integrated into the seats.

you are probably right, i wouldnt know much about 4 wheel shifters i've never had a 4 wheel drive.

Yup, it's a automatic shifter on the column and a 4x4 shifter on the floor. The new middle seat actually sits about 6 to 8 inches farther back than the old stock bench seat, nice to have all the extra room.

Installation was pretty straight-forward. I had to drill all new holes for mounting the seats. I just dry fitted the seats into place and marked where to drill. Like 'Hooter' mentioned, I made sure to put an extra big backing plate to the bottom of the floorpan for all of the mounting bolts so that they won't pull out in case of an accident.

Highly recommended for those of you with back problems!!

do you put that plate on the underside of the cab or in the inside? plus what type of material did you use and did you weld it to the cab floor??

Here's mine: Truck 72' SWB 4x4
Seat: 98' 60/40, very comfortable
Gas Tank: Removed, bought the truck with seat and tank this way.
Complaint: NO DRINK HOLDERS ON FLIP DOWN CENTER PIECE!
