It was under 20 degrees. But for some reason I wasnt cold just wearing a jacket, I guess fighting a bed for 2 hours warms you up pretty good! haha

Couldnt let you have all the fun working on your crew cab. I agree man I do need some lift. But I am going to get it to a drivable state before I worry about that. A guy I know that has about 30 of these trucks and parts them out is going to look at a burb tomorrow that is said to have a good red interior. It even has bucket seats. So if he picks that burb up I might just be getting me a interior. Red wont be what I want, but if I can get it for the right price it will work till I can afford to put money into it.

I already like it. As you know I wanted a SRW long bed crew cab when I bought the first one and I have done a complete 360 in my planning. I really think I will like it. The dually was cool, but srw will work best for me.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

Well I got some stuff done today. I did not end up getting a steering box today and it wont be in till Tuesday so the truck is not drivable right now. I did get the SRW box on today. Its not great but for now it is a bed and it will work.

And if you are wondering how it looks with singles on a Dana 70 HD dually axle here is a picture.

As you can see I believe it sticks out about 1.5 inches. It kind of looks weird, but I think when I lift the truck 6 inches and put some 37s under it the big meats will look good on there.

Tuck looks good, IMO it will look great with fat meats under'er. Ever time I see a truck with stock tires it looks like the rear end is narrower than the front.

Thanks man! Yeah I think it will look great setting on some 37x12.5x16.5 inch tires. As for the stock tires, yeah the single rear wheel axles are not as wide as the fronts. That is why I kept the dually axle under the rear, its Wheel mounting surface (WMS) to WMS is 3 inchs wider so i think it looks better with the wider rear.

Yeah I want to find a DRW D60 just so I can do that same thing. But I also have some cool 16.5in wagon wheels that I think would look cool on this truck.

Yes it will. I just gotta find some 6 inch lift springs for the front and do a poor man shackle flip in the rear. And fix brake lines and steering.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

I would go for a 4" lift, I think 6" will be too much and get to be annoying getting in and out of every day. To tell the truth if I could do it over I would order a 2.5" lift for my gmc, it already sits higher than the blazer does with 40"s and its only on 33"s. :\

What color do you plan on painting the wheels?

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

I dont think a 4 inch lift will clear enough for any flex if you drive offroad at all. I don't want to cut fenders. It might get annoying jumping in there all the time but I think I can manage.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

That looks really close to the fenders. I would rather be safe than sorry. Ive talked to several people that ran 4 inch and 37s that have said at full lock they have gotten into the fenders.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

I love the height of my truck on 37's. I'm 6'1" on a good day and it's no problem getting in and out. So I think 6" with 37's will have that full wheel well look and not be to high. Good for a driver!

I curled in a fender with a roughcountry 4" w/ 35's on my k10. And that sat a lot taller than a lot of 4" lifts..

Matt, trucks's looking good. I also agree that 4" is not going to work with 37's. Maybe a ford super duty, but not on a square chevy!

Well I guess we'll see with my truck, though my front fenders already have wedges taken out and welded back together on the bottom corners.

Im 6'4 so I doubt it will be much of a problem. I might end up putting some kind of step when I lift it because my dad probably wouldnt be able to get up into the truck and I plan on driving this all the time so if he needs a ride or something he would need to be able to get in.

I probably wont be lifting the truck for a while. I should be getting my steering box today. But school starts today also and so I wont be able to put it on till tomorrow. I put dynamat under the heater box so I could at least get heat hooked up. I have a feeling that the dynamat is not going to quiet it down the engine noise that is coming through the firewall. It is more of a high freqency sound deadener so I will have to probably get some dynapad to quiet it down to a comfortable level.

Does your truck have the underhood firewall insulation?

No it does not. All the insulation I did have I removed to paint and it was old and fell apart.

Both of my diesels have an insulating panel that has insulation on the firewall and a rubber cover. It covers the entire firewall under the hood.
I'll snap a couple pics for you...

I've never seen one of those installed. I think I found them new somewhere I just can't think of where. I think maybe if I get some dynapad and put it under the dash too, then maybe on the hood and on the firewall right behind the motor that will quiet it down a lot.
