Re: Coming home

I changed my mind on the color a dozen times , then I saw a 2 wheel stepside similar in color That caught my eye and my painter come up with this color for me , he wasn’t to keen on it at first but fell in love with it after he shot the first panels.

I love the color .

Re: Coming home

Paint is becoming such an expensive commitment I’m starting to notice how rare it is anyone does a complete anymore. The whole ‘patina’ thing has its place I guess, but there’s nothing like fresh new finish. Enjoy the reassembly, looks like you’ll be driving soon

I bought this in Colo , 1977 . I needed a truck and the guy was selling mostly because he beat the crap out of it mechanically wise . I moved back to Mich in 1980 after 10 yrs in colo . I was living in Grandby co at the time of the purchase .

I ran across the guy who did mine via internet search . He came highly recommended . I called him , he looked at truck gave me a price I couldn’t believe . Way low for a decent body man. But after talking to him , he quit the body shop work to make some real money as he said. He is now a mill wright and does this out of his shop as a hobby. His estimate for cab corners , rockers , cab supports , front , rear fender rust and damage repair , hidden tail gate latches and tail gate work , install new cab doors , align all panels , prime , prime , paint and 5 coats of quality clear less than $10,000 he didn’t make any money that’s for sure. He sent me progress pic’s daily , told me to come over any time and look at his work . He did everything him self , He has a 2 wheel 68 step like mine but he’s going to leave it rough and make a sleeper out of it. With a blown 454 , 700r4 , Ford 9” rear end .
He’s a hell of a body , paint guy and has become a friend since he started. By the way he did everything in 6 months !

Great results! Knowing a good body and paint man is a precious gem. Can't wait to see you progress now that you have it back. I'm sure it's very energizing to have it sitting out there ready.

Yea energizing is it but I have to be patient because I need some help with certain things , if I get to far ahead of myself . I’ll start scraping things . Hate that.

Keeping in sequence , I fight that . Have all my life I am ADD , but I keep a list of the order I need to do this. The biggest problem is after 30 yrs of being apart I have lost many of the screws and clips . So when I go to put it together , they are missing . So I move on to other things while I wait for stuff to show up.
Screws and some of the bolts / nuts are my biggest issue . Can’t do much with out them .

Re: Coming home

Well got all the tail light wiring done , lights work great and everything is hidden.
The bed wood needs anchoring , that’s happening next week and then onto the front half of the truck .
