Re: New Wheels

Here is a shot of my 70 formy with body color wheels and dog dishes. That's the way it was done back then, and would be an interesting difference from the norm on a blazer to do this. Something to think about. Really odd ball color combos was not all that unusual back then, I have a couple other muscle cars here that have odd factory color combos. Makes them a real eye catcher nowadays among the sea of black and red cars that pepper a car show.
One in particular is red with a black top, black interior, and white stripes. The other is green with white interior and black stripes. Both are original paint unrestored cars.

Re: New Wheels

Love the look and I am trying to locate wheels and caps as I write this.
I have a line on three rims and am looking for the dog dish caps.
Can you verify the stock backspace; is it 3.5"?
Thanks for the inspiration!

Re: New Wheels

GM's color code of the "white" paint used would be helpful too. There must be 50 shades of "white" and 4 shades of sheen (flat, eggshell, satin, gloss). The 69-72 Blazer dog dish caps are out there, but nice examples are getting pretty tough to find. Nice full wheel covers are even getting tough to find.

Finally got the wheels refinished and the tires mounted, Not sure if I will mount the dog dishes though, I like the steelie look.

Re: New Wheels

I was originally looking for "Old School" stock rubber, L78-15 trying to match the one never used Uniroyal Snowplow tire I have as a spare.
Looked at a bunch of Traxion and other old school tires; found them too aggressive in tread. I finally settling on Firestone Trans Force AT LT235 75R15 mounted on stock Kelsey Hayes 15x6 rims.
Still getting used to the look versus the truck ralleys I had on it, but I like it!

Re: New Wheels

You nailed it, I prefer this wheel/tire combo to the other setup you used have.

It really looks good with the stock wheels and dog dish caps. I actually like it better than the rally wheels. Very nice looking Blazer.

Re: New Wheels

Always a good look. I had a set of 5 15x6's for the longest time, couldn't fine a set of dog dish caps that were nice enough so I never put the wheels on.

Then I started leaning towards 15x8 wheels instead and figured if I were to do it, the 8's are what I'd use, so I sold the 15x6's. Never found any 8" wheels either so I just gave up on the whole idea

Looks good Tbruz

Re: New Wheels

Thanks.
I feel like I hijacked this thread from Nicosorange but once I saw his setup I knew I had to set mine up similarly: took almost a year to get it all pulled together.

The rears caps are really not in very good shape but they'll do until I can find a better set.

Now the Ralleye rim/tire set is for sale.
Also anyone close by in NH can have my spare set of stock 15x6 rims for free if they want to go "stock look".

Re: New Wheels

Where ever you can find them. These trucks never led glorified lives so it's tough to find a really nice set.

Re: New Wheels

I know this is an old thread, but plenty of good info on Steelies. Did anybody ever verify the backspacing? Was there different versions with different backspacings?

Re: New Wheels

One of the cooler things about this site is everyone's willingness to express their opinions. My 72 came with those ugly white spokers. I opted for the black aluminums. The only way I would go with the steelies would be if I was trying to get the original stock look. Granted, some of em look good, but I like different.

I think 67-72's Aluminum's look great.
