Speaker set-up in a 68

I've got a 68 truck with no gas tank behind the seat. I am trying to figure out to do my speaker setup. Was thinking about doing 2 10" behind the seat, and a 6 by 9 in each rear corner and 5 and a half's in the kick panels. does that sound like a good setup or are the 6 by 9's gonna be wasted? Also does anyone have a picture of something like this that they might could show me?

Re: Speaker set-up in a 68

It sounds like you have a handle on things with placement of the speakers. Me personally, I have never been a fan of 6x9's. Nothing wrong with them, just not my cup of beer. I am assuming you will use an amp for at least the 10's. Everything else can be connected to the head unit. What you can always do is get the 5.25's and the 10's installed and see how you like it. If you think you need more sound, you can always add the 6x9's or whatever you want in the future.

Good luck with your build.

Would there be another speaker, maybe a little smaller I could do instead of the 6x9 that's just as good?

Re: Speaker set-up in a 68

You will love the setup you are planning on doing. 6X9's or 6.5's are both good speakers for behind the seat. You can hook them up to your deck which will be enough to power them. You will need an external amplifier for the dual 10's though.

I have 5.25" components in my kickpanels, 6.5" 2-way speakers and a 10" subwoofer behind the bucket seats, a 400W 4-channel amp powering my front and rear speakers/tweeters, and an 800W 2-channel amp powering my subwoofer. Sounds great and is very loud. My entire system is Rockford Fosgate, which is one of the best brands, but also not too cheap. My stereo system costed me about $3000 just to give you an idea.

Components are the way to go. with 72 cheyenne, I'm not a big fan of 6X9's either. Not for any particular reason, I would just prefer to have a set of components instead.

Fosgate doesn't make the Solo Baric. Kicker does...

Re: Speaker set-up in a 68

You should find an amplifier that matches the RMS wattage of your subwoofers. Do not over power them past their max wattage rating, you can damage the voice coil.

You can use a mono channel amp, 2-channel amp, or a 4-channel amp. With the 2 and 4 channel ones you can "bridge" the channels to increase the power going to your subs.

Re: Speaker set-up in a 68

OK, so each Kicker solo baric L7 subwoofer can handle 600W RMS (MAX??). Now do you want your dual subs to pound like crazy (SPL) or do you just want some added bass and good sound quality?

The type of amplifier and how much power it will put out depends on these factors.
