Re: Pics of my Hot Wheels toy 63c10

This product has been on the market since January 2008. Your "one off" may have been the prototype for this toy. Look at the packaging Hotwheels is clearly marketing it as a 62 pickup. And it has morphed into a few different versions. It is out there and can be easily modifed by most anyone to look very much like your truck! Congrats!

I think Mattel used that 62 to make my toy. I wish I could say that was my toy but it has been out for a while.

I wouldn't be suprised that the original mattel design was inspired by your truck

Joe,
Nice job on the toy conversion. You have to have a steady hand to do that!

Very cool - I almost bought the "62" blue one with the surf board in the grocery store yesterday.

I may have to go back and get it.

Joe, do you think the toy looks more like the 62 or 63? It is too hard for me to tell. I think Mattel used the 62 toy to make my 63.

Re: Pics of my Hot Wheels toy 63c10

they definatly used that casting for your toy, how ever there are some differences/modifications..
yours has a front bumper instead of a rollpan and fog lights.
yours does not have the exhaust cut out in the bed sides, and dosen't have a hole in the bed floor to mount the surf board.
I think yours does have the 62 grille though.

It's definitely a '62.

You have to remember it is a toy. They wheels are not the same either. There are some things that Mattel wont/can't do.

That hood started in '62. 60 and 61's have the 'nostril' type hoods.

Re: Pics of my Hot Wheels toy 63c10

Thanks guys for confirming/supporting my original post about the Mattel Hot Wheels toy being a 62. I am 56 and grew up in a GM family. My Mom retired from GM and as a kid I took great pride in being able to determine the year of every GM product from the early 50's to the late 60's. My Mom would receive GM promotional information each model year for the full line of GM products in the form of a soft cover book. It was easy for me as a car nut kid to absorb this information and become proficient at identifying the year make and model of any GM and their competitors products. Were I grew up though it was not unusual for a lot of kids to posses this skill set as many of our folks worked for GM or other manufacturers. Yolo you still have a cool truck...and toy! Like I said my first 4x4 was a 63 Chevy and I loved that truck.

Re: Pics of my Hot Wheels toy 63c10

justcuz....... if you look at my other post, I said "I think Mattel used the 62 toy to build my 63". I just did not agree with you on the grille because it is not that clear on the toy. Sorry for any confusion.

No confusion, the real truck is a work of metallic art. It is to your credit that Mattel did what they did, no matter what they used to accomplish it.

Re: Pics of my Hot Wheels toy 63c10

Can you help me out with some info and pics on the reverse hood set up. I'm about to try and fab something up, but it would be nice to see how it's been done already. There is a real lack of info on reverse hood brackets for 60-66. I've been to your web site already and there isn't much detail there but really nice shots of the whole truck. Thanks
