68 Small Window??

Found what is titled a 68 with a small window today. Didnt know they made them past 67. Title matched the vin plate.

Is it possible it was a late 67 that got titled 68... or did they still have the small window as an option in 68?

Re: 68 Small Window??

Look at the frame by the power steering gear box to see if it is dimpled or not.
67 no dimple and 68-72 is dimpled.
see this thread for picture reference:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=235108

I'm betting it's a 67 with a vin plate changed to a 68. But, who knows I guess?

There are several of them sitting there they guy has been bringing them up from the South. He has cabs, beds, frames, and all sorts of fenders and hoods and tons of other parts for 67 through 72 and beyond.

Re: 68 Small Window??

Yes, some 68s came with small window. Check your VIN#, the year should be about 5 digits in... For example, 7 = 67. They also made some big windows for 67, kinda rare but cool.

No small windows in 68 unless it was a C-40 or bigger truck.

Re: 68 Small Window??

I remember seeing a small back glass 68 ad for one and in the ad the guy said yes there was small windowed back glass 68 trucks. He said that all could view the title to see for them selves. He was selling parts off of it if I recall. He was a parts dealer type guy. Jim

I only spoke with him on the phone for a few minutes and he had told me where everything was. There was no one there when I stopped in so I havnt even taked about pricing yet because I didnt get to see anything in the shop. Just saw the trucks out side. Ill be talking to him again about some body stuff soon though. He has 2 ads on Y-town CL with his number. But he does seem like a nice guy. Hes in GA right now.

Re: 68 Small Window??

I have a "titled 68" with a small window. Frame and vin plate and protection plate all match. Protecto plate book says 68. But what I've heard is that they title them 68 if they were sold in that year. Everything that I have found is the small window was only offered in 67.

Re: 68 Small Window??

Back to the small window '68 discussion that was started and fizzled out, did you check your VIN to see if it is in fact a '68? Yes, in '67 there were both small and large rear windows...just like years before. The large back window was an option and many trucks came through with them. I have heard tell of '68s existing with small back window, but I would need bonafide proof. I have seen vehicles titled (improperly) as the year they were sold in and not the year of manufacture. Is the fifth digit a 7 or an 8?

Well I didnt buy this truck. Its just sitting with several others I was looking at. The guy wasnt there for me to be able to look at the title and I didnt think to look at the vin while I was there. But I will be going back and will write down the vin

Re: 68 Small Window??

Besides the window there are a dozen or more other things that define a '67. Do these "small window 68's" have fender lights, the different wing windows, door handles, dash bezel, ignition bezel etc.?

My "titled 68" small window vin comes back as a 67. Forgot to mention that. But reg and everything else says 68. Frame does not have dimple.

sorry, I guess you did say you didn't buy it earlier. I just got distracted and that went over my head. I am now remembering, IIRC, there was a member who had a small window '68. It had the '68 dash. Can anytime else recall that or am I remembering wrong? This comes up every year or so and that was a good many years ago. The best I can say is there may be a freak or two out there, but no, starting in '68 the large back window became the standard window, no small offered (except may a fluke)

The front clip was off but the bed was still just sitting on the frame.. IF its original it has marker lights and the guy did say the fenders have them too. He does have them but they was in the shop and he wasnt there to show me. As far as the dash goes it was stripped all the way down so I wouldnt know if anything was different there from 67. I am going back though when I can and if there is something in the dash that would tell me 67 or 68 still wouldnt know.
But I will get the vin and see if I can see the title. The frame is perfect and the cab at least was in decent shape with supposed replaced corners and rockers.

Re: 68 Small Window??

Look at the hole for the ignition switch. It is noticeable smaller. If the switch or bezel are still there, they will be noticeably smaller, too. The VIN tells the tale, but verify the dash just the same. If it is a '68 VIN it would be good to know if it's a left over small window that slipped through or a true fluke with '67 cab back panel and newer dash panel all in one

Great! It's threads like this that makes this site so much smarter than other sites. we have been sorting this type of stuff out for years so others can come along and benefit. It sure helps when a member goes to buy a truck
