Who to hire to remove rust

I just found out today that my body man has retired. I just pulled my ol girl, 68 IH Travelall, out of the carport and was getting ready to start working on her again and dealing with the rust was the first on my list. And then I found out he retired!
So now the question is, "who do I hire?" Because I know that I don't have the tools, don't have the knowledge and don't have the skills to do it, so I struck out.
How do you find a good guy to do this? Someone who won't rip you off and who will do it right?
I live in in NE Kansas and would appreciate any help or advice.
Thanks,
Joe

Sitting here smiling ....he does top notch work...
Do you have a budget in mind?...or x#$$$s your willing to spend? At some point the price can outweigh the value...I'm doing my own work and I doubt I could sell and recover what I have invested...not counting my many many hrs of labor

The thing is all that will more than likely ,have to be hand made or replaced with donor vehicle parts...I dont think theres any repop parts for a IH like that..yours may be newer enough that there may be some stuff out there....there was nothing for mine..
Have you looked for parts?...you might find some stuff in the rust free states ...

For choices a bit closer, there's Dan Shady in Huntsville, Alabama and Pat Brubaker in Hastings Nebraska. These guys aren't necessarily a body shop, they are metal shapers. If parts aren't available, they have the ability to duplicate the part needed.

That's what I'm thinking too. I sent some pictures to a body shop today that people have highly recommended and the guy there so it's doable. I need to take this further and see how he's going to form the metal bends the way the original is/was.

Re: Who to hire to remove rust

I found a guy locally that says he could do it, he owns his own hot rod shop. I don't even have the seats in yet after so I'll probably haul it up to him. Any idea how much this is going to be? I know its hard to tell with the pictures, but if that is all the rust there is, how much?

Re: Who to hire to remove rust

What do most people do in this type of dilemma?

Re: Who to hire to remove rust

Removing rust is cheap. Replacing the rusted metal is expensive!

Looking at rust is a lot like looking at an iceburg - what you can see is about 20% of what there really is.

From a purely dollars and cents view, it almost certainly isn't economical to repair it. There's a few discussions about it over on binderplanet.com

Another rust free (or less rust anyway) replacement from Arizona, Nevada or Southern California would probably leave you money ahead.

If all you running gear is good, you might find a shell or rolling chassis. You can try Desert Valley Auto Parts in Casa Grande, AZ and see what he has or knows about.

Other than that, you can just keep driving it until the doors won't close anymore then scrap it or part it out.

Good idea. I think it will be cheaper to find a replacement than getting it fixed.

Re: Who to hire to remove rust

I have surface rust on the hood and two fenders and was wanting to know if I would have to sand all the way down to bear metal or not? I sanded that much off my truck bed trailer and I think it left spots and spoches when I did my final painting. I plan to use a primer first, and spray it at least 3 times before spaying the top coat. Thanks for any help,
Joe

Re: Who to hire to remove rust

Rust means your seeing bare metal....you'll need to remove the rust and use epoxy primer on it
