If he's all that much of a Ford guy, maybe you can talk him out of that lil red truck. It's worth a try...

Re: Shop truck build

Carpet and seat back in...yeah, I know, I know, seatbelts don't match - I'll get to it..

Temporarily installed the dash...need to paint the interior sheet metal and get it black...but wanted to see if I hated it - I don't...I left all the dents and flaws on purpose...

That dash doesn't look bad at all !! The whole slower than you wanted to deal, I can relate. I was aiming for slow and steady, I ended up with slow and sporadically !! Keep plugging away !!

Re: Shop truck build

How did you lower the rear ? Extended shackles ? I would have thought they would angle the pinion even more down.
Weird. Somethings not right there. Especially on a leaf spring suspension where the pinion will rise under torque, And is usually set pointing down for that reason.

Belltech shackle and hanger kit for a 4" drop...3" in the front...I'm a bit stymied...

Belltech says it happens and just to shim it...

I've helped with lowering before and not seen this happen...advice please

Re: Shop truck build

I am working on lowering mine so don't have much to add. Mines a flip job.
But, Get the angle finder out and see what angle the engine/trans is sitting at compared to the rear axle.

Re: Shop truck build

After adjusting, maneuvering, swearing and measuring...I believe 4 degree shims will get things back in place...they have been ordered...

Re: Shop truck build

While I am clearly not finished, I looked back over this thread to see all that I've accomplished and how much I haven't...here are my thoughts...

- Dang it took a long time to get my arse movin on this thing...
- Belltech just works...
- I still prefer long beds (but dig shortys)...
- Experience is truly the best teacher...
- Necessity is clearly the Muther of invention...
- Roadkill has changed what I now consider cool...
- Frustration is accomplishment being grilled to medium rare...

The road goes on forever and the party never ends............

Re: Shop truck build

To back up a bit...I ended up needing 6 degree shims to get the pinion angle right...what can we learn from this? If you are lowering a long bed with a 2 piece driveshaft...plan on gettin shims.

Here is a slo-mo of a baaad pinion angle...

Re: Shop truck build

I'm enjoying watching your take on modifications. I think that dash came out startlingly well. 'Frustration is accomplishment grilled to medium rare' cracked me up. Keep at it. All of it. The truck, helping at the mission, the life philosophy.

We're a couple of the lucky few who get to go through being torn down, and building back up.

Re: Shop truck build

Whamo, remind me of the specs on your motor? You may want to look up the target operating range for that intake. It's a great-looking Edelbrock and you got a deal on it. It just looks like it's made to make power at high RPM to me.
