how hard to rebuild 4l80???

I put a 700r4 in my truck about a year ago and the transmission rebuilder that rebuilt it had to rebuild it several times again under warranty. He is really pissed off at me because he thinks I'm causing it to go out. Every time before it goes out it gets a wicked vibration starting at 3000 rpm then it takes out the front transmission seals, this last time burning up my 3/4 clutches. My rebuilder thinks it's the engine, but I'm almost positive its not. I'm pretty sure that it's in the converter that I got from Summit.................

anyway........my warranty is about up and I'm sick of 700r4's and I don't want to sink $1500 into another one.......I'm thinking about trying to rebuild a 4L80E with a manual valve body kit. How hard is it to rebuild the 4l80??? I rebuilt a 350 sbc and I can read a manual and follow instructions

any other ideas???

Just a bigger version. I helped rebuild 2 of them. Just keep everything neat and organized during tear down so it will make it easier going back together. Never modified one though. I don't think they are much harder than a TH350 IMO.

Don't forget the 4l80e will need a computer for shifting. They are pretty pricey.

I'm planning on using a stage 3 kit from transgo that has a full manual valve body.

That kit is not for street use, Its not practical to have to shift the transmission everywhere you go. I thought you were going with a 2004R? Though a proporly built 700R4 should hold up to the power your making.

If I get a ratchet shifter It shouldn't be too bad, I don't mind hard shifts, It's like a manual transmission without a clutch
