that c-30 wrecker looks like a 68 custom. it looks suspicious though because the paint scheme looks wrong to me. the cab pillars look white not red like the rest of the body. i thought the pillars were painted body color for 67-68s w/white roofs. the cowl badge looks like 67-68 style and the custom emblem is in the correct location high on the driverside door. looks like a 68 custom. the dual rear wheels are throwing me off though. longhorn man is probably right--chassis and cab with bed added later. the incorrect paint scheme was my clue. unless its a wacky factory truck(very unlikely). i do want it though!

I have a 72 Custom Camper Longhorn. Probably not rare at all with all the people coming out with longhorns on this site.

IIRC, only 67 had the white roof and body color windshield pillars. 68 was like all the other years, with white pillars. the badge on the upper door could also be a CST badge, the two emblems went in the same location and we'd have to get a closeup to check.
This truck has been posted on here before, If you look at it from the front (which you will be able to do as soon as the auction is up i'm sure), then you can see that the steps flare out and are different than regular 9ft steps, so it kinda looks factory. of course, it could be aftermarket. but if it was a factory one-off, I would still believe it, as automakers did some crazy stuff back in the day.

Also, one oddity I would like to see is a CST/30. CST/10's are fairly common, CST/20's are pretty rare, but i have never seen a CST/30.

c-30 cst

i've pm'd groundflyer with an offer if dtilly does'nt want it. i'll pass on any specifics he's willing to share or we can just check out the auction tomorrow though it sounded like he'd sell it first if dtilly wanted it.
if the paint is correct then it may be a 68 cst. my 67 sales brochure states cst's were available models for c-30s. 133" wheelbase model 31003 (chassis and cab) but no 31004 (stepside pickup). also available was 158" wheelbase model 31403 (camper or motor home). i do not have a 68 sales brochure.so this 68 definately has an interesting history. maybe groundflyer will post the vin# tomorrow.

I hope one of you guys get that truck, its been one of my favorites since it was first posted on here several years ago.

I now have most of the parts to convert my 69 8" stepside to a dually, would love to find a pair of rear fender extensions like the ones used on that truck.

The rarest i have seen was what appeared to be a nicely restored '68 Longhorn, which was parked on a road being built. I was riding with a friend and we were hauling so i didn't get much of a chance to look at it.

Rarest?, very likely one of a kind but NOT factory. There is a guy tooling around town with a 72 GMC converted to a mini dump truck. Got a PTO and hydraulics/ scissor frame underneath. The bed sits about 1 ft. off the frame rails. As soon as I buy a digital camera I will carry it with me always in hopes of getting a quick snapshot of that truck.

Here is the link to the VIN #'s on that 9 foot step. Looks like it was a factory dual wheel conversion. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...hreadid=102433

That 68 is really interesting. I've never seen factory dual wheels before. The step boards are also unique with the extra flair for the wider fenders. Dang, the truck is even a factory A/C truck!!

I'm drawing a blank on the BB members name but I went with kingparts and meathead to look at a 67-72 only yard near PF.He had a 67 small window AC cab.It seems like that is the only small window I have ever heard of with AC.I know the panoramic(large window)was probably the most common option on these trucks that year.I know this probably makes it pretty rare but who knows how rare.I wonder how many small windows got AC?

panel i've got a 67 small window w/deluxe air heater. i don't know how many small windows got ac but i think about 3% of 67s got that option installed at the factory. i don't know if the deluxe air heater qualifies. mine has an underdash controls with 2 vents--it does have a compressor but my truck does not have the in dash vents.

longhorn with rear wheel steering

this is at the body shop next door and if you look close you'll see the back wheels are turning in conjunction with the front wheels. Probably a dealer add on......just kidding, thought I'd throw alittle humor onto this thread. It's actually a totaled rig, and I'm triing to get it before it gets smashed. Pics aren't that good, fence is in the way...oh yea, it"s a big block -auto.
