Great looking truck, I would go s-10 with your 327/400 get it all mounted in the frame with the drop you want, run fuel/brake lines and wires, clean and fix up the body and drop it on. Easy right I really like your dually.

Need some honest opinions on this "Ebay" kit from CPP. Looks like a great deal, check out the pic below, see whats included and tell me what you think. $2199.00

Anyone purchased kits from CPP? If so how do you rate quality, fitment issues during install , customer service if any?
Thanks.

No experience with CPP, but why not go straight to CPP? Is the same kit cheaper on Ebay?

The time you'll save tracking down all those parts individually.. don't know about the quality but seems like a great deal

I used the same CPP kit minus the rear stuff, mine was 1400 on Ebay, installed as would be expected, no complaints. Doesn't come with directions, they need to be tracked down on CPP's site.

My wife and I do road trips, we only have one rule, no interstate roads, no schedule, just look at the heart land. Naps are necessary, camp one night, motel the next night.

We did that in Europe in 2014 for 8 weeks the best trip ever. Not take 1/2 as much clothes, and take 3 times the money.

Fun truck, got a good mentor in Joeduh.

Keep on keepin on

looks like the EBAY kit for 1400 doesn't have the Booster, Master cylinder or Prop valve?

Camping trips are great, One trip led to a land purchase in Grayson County Virginia. 5 acres with mountain views for cheap.

Unless you're just wanting to keep the original frame you could buy an s10 and replace EVERYTHING on it with performance stuff and not spend much over a grand if that.

The crew cab is AWESOME!!!!

the appalachians are some of the most beautiful mountains in the US. I grew up in those low, rolling mountains covered with trees and I still see them in my mind every fall.

I think your correct , and this brings me back to that decision.
My thinking was (Correct me if I'm wrong) but even with the S10 swap you still are rebuilding control arms , or replacing them with tubular.

Still not a fan of the whole wheel spacer thing, still need a rear end.

S10 doner trucks I've found still require a COMPLETE tear down, Sell or scrap all the left overs. you're right , the price of a decent S10 is half the price for all the ebay stuff.

I am deciding this week , one way or the other. I appreciate all the input.

Crew cab constantly has notes left on windshield with potential buyers, Kinda fun hearing some of the offers.

Yes, Its like going back in time when we visit. Whole lot slower pace.

People actually say hello , wave to you, don't drive like their crazy. Its addicting just spending time there. Ethanol free gas under Two dollars a gallon.

Sucks its 9 hours from home. Changes will come in a few years when we move there permanently.

I'll +1 for an S10 frame. If for no other reason than available replacement parts. Pull in to an auto parts store in any town in America, and they probably have S10 gear. Spacers, that can be addressed with backspacing if you don't like spacers. Keep this in mind, many OEMs use spacers for front 2wd dually applications.

I'm ok with either way, but I chose S10 for my build due to lack of aftermarket for 1 ton AD frames, and ease of replacement parts.

If you were closer I'd make a silly offer on your crew cab too!

Re: Search for a 1949 is over Let the FUN begin...

Not to knock the the CPP kit, but I second the s-10 for the replacement parts aspect. My whole suspension is mostly s-10 parts so when we travel I know I can get a part with out hassle.

Re: Search for a 1949 is over Let the FUN begin...

Although i agree with the parts replacement line of thought, and the possible savings in going that route there are two things that i dislike about the S10 frame swap;
1. the frame under the cab sits way low and requires spacers, therefor the cab is not actually bolted directly to the frame.
2. nothing looks worse to me than a bed floor that has been raised up as far as is required to cover the rear hump in the s10 frame.

Just my 2 cents.

I think you have seen a half-butted version. I have done 4 and have a 5th and the cab is absolutely bolted to the frame. and the bed floor only needs to be raised 1.5" to have a super low truck, if you build taller cab mounts it doesnt have to be raised at all.

This wasn't intended to offend anyone it was my opinion. the taller cab mounts or taller frame mounts are exactly what i was referring to? either way there is a substantial gap between the frame and cab floor. i contemplated going that way with my truck and I'm sure its probably less work in the long run but the original poster was asking for opinions.

nope you can have your opinions and share them, I am not offended. I was trying to get a handle on exactly what you were talking about, I havent had the problems you describe.

Thanks, Yes and no. I have slowly accumulated what I think is all the parts I will need, but you know how that goes.

Decided on going the S10 route for the chassis, You guys have convinced me this is the way to go. The cost of buying ALL the parts to improve the stock chassis doesn't make sense to me.

This build will be a driver, so I would like the ride that the S10 provides.
Prices seem to be going up on the reg/cab long beds around here. Still searching though.

If anyone has a lead on something decent for a donor truck I'm willing to travel, I have a trailer.

Like most of my projects I get side tracked, this year been racing my Chevy ll so the truck is sitting, and waiting for me once again. Here is a pic.

Happy 4th everyone!
