Another rust issue...
Just wondering, as you can see this inner fender piece has been scabbed over, maybe multiple times, do I need to fab and rescab, or is this piece available, not even sure what to call it. - 1959 Stepside

Every truck trinket vendor that sells TF sheet metal should be able to get you the pieces.
This page is a royal pain in the butt to navigate but they have good photos of the parts. You might also try Wes at www.classicheartbeat.com he usually comes up with the best sheet metal pieces he can find to sell in his store. He won't have the cheapest price but he will have the best part he can find.

Those are repoped but at $35 each+ shipping=$80+ , I don't think they are worth it .
Can be fabbed up for about $5 and some of your time. I saved these pics from another members build, but cant remember who, so I cant take credit for them, just sharing. |

Don't forget a drain hole in the bottom to prevent the problem a second time.

Is that different than what a 57 truck has? I have changed all of the metal around the lower hinges on my truck but I didn't have anything like that. My inner lower hinge cover was not that flat.

My 58 had the curvy cover, but my 55-1/2 had a box like cover , comes straight down from the lip on the floor and flat on bottom( whats left of the bottom)
The pics I posted looks to be a good alternative ,angled down and open at the very bottom. A few tac welds and seam seal around it done. Nothing fancy needed there really , just a cover to keep dirt and muck out. Looking at other builds and comparing my 55 to my 58 , that area is different on 55s.
55 comes down about 7" then 90*straight in, from the pinch weld on the firewal, while all others 56-59 have an angled cut towards the bottom hinge pocket. here is dans 55 hinge pocket area compared with rogers hinge pocket area. |
