Rattle can hi-temp exhaust manifold paint?

I need to paint the exhaust manifolds (ram horns). The last Hi temp exhaust manifold paint I got did not dry completely until you ran the engine so it "melted" Until then it was a semi sticky powder.

Since it will be a while between paint and engine running with plenty of time to get the excess on everything else in the engine compartment is there a paint that drys but offers the heat resistance finish without the mess? How about toaster oven powder coating systems? Or regular engine paint and accept the fact that over time it will fade to the semi rust patina?? Thanks in advance.

Re: Rattle can hi-temp exhaust manifold paint?

I had forgotten about that, I generally stay away from Eastwood stuff because it is expensive, but in this case you get what you pay for. Does it dry hard, not tacky? Thanks Patrick

I use the VHT brand header paint. You have to realize though that nothing short of a ceramic will last very long if it is driven regularly.

The VHT is available in cast iron tone also.

I am using it on some headers now.

My expectations for exhaust manifolds and pipes are low. I will drive the truck 6-8K per year, in all weather, off road, in the hills etc. I would like it to look nice when it is back together so I can show it off a little. In the future I might get some ceramic headers for it, for now money dictates a different course.

Thanks for all the responses.

Re: Rattle can hi-temp exhaust manifold paint?

Most of the rattlecan high temp can be treated in an oven if you have one large enough and can get the wife to look the other way long enough... it actually provides more even curing anyway... read the back of the can on duplicolor and vht

Cast Blast 1200 degree paint works well too. I have used it on a number of exhausts manifolds. It's a little cheaper around 10 bucks a can.

POR 20 Hi Temp manifold paint. Have it on my daily driver for years. Still looks brand new. Brush it on, no mess.

Re: Rattle can hi-temp exhaust manifold paint?

VHT is good paint. For any paint to stick the metal needs to be spotless. Glass bead or sand blasting, followed by a thorough wash.

Yukon Jack had the manifolds for his 69 powder coated a couple years ago. You might PM him and ask how it has held up.

Re: Rattle can hi-temp exhaust manifold paint?

I sand blasted the manifolds and will clean off the residue. Local body paint place has the POR stuff, I'll look at that. Thanks
