Thanks Greystoke for the kind words.

I'll send you a PM, but if you are on Facebook, look for Rick Hendrickson in the 55-59 GMC Trucks page.

Footstomper,

Love your build! Beautiful truck. Same colour as my 67 C10.

What gas tank do you have there?

Thanks Strider. Great color choice.

The tank is a late 60's Mustang.

Where did you buy it from? Did you remove the rear crossmember or was it already installed? Any issues with having no cross member between the lead spring shackles?

Man that is a beautiful job you did!

I actually bought the tank from my local NAPA store. One small cross member comes out and is discarded. No issues with that in the least.

From what I have seen of other mustang tank installs on these trucks, there is a crossmember that is on the frame from the factory that is riveted in between the leaf spring shackles. Your truck must have had this removed when you got it. The little one you refer to is for hanging the spare tire. I was wondering if you saw any issues with having no crossmember between the frame in that area (between the leaf spring shackles) ? Other mustang tank installs have shown this beefy crossmember ( see photo) moved back towards the rear of the frame. Have you had any issues without support in that area?

Re: 1959 GMC 9310 Canadian built Shortbox Fleetside Deluxe

there really should be some sort of cross member at the rear of the frame somewhere close to the suspension mounting locations. if not there then look for cracks in the frame soon after and/or suspension flexxing the frame.

Anyone else have any thoughts on the rear crossmember, or experience with issues?

Re: 1959 GMC 9310 Canadian built Shortbox Fleetside Deluxe

Hi all,

I've been wanting to weigh in to all of you who comment on Canadian built 1959 GMC's. I'm posting pictures of my truck that I bought out of a auction maybe 12 to 15 years ago in Tucson, AZ. I've taken the truck apart more than once making things better each time. The entire under carriage is new and has a early model corvette 350 with a 700R4 transmission. The bed is mesquite wood. The color is House of Color Tangelo Pearl. The seats come from the back row of a Honda Pilot and I built the center counsel starting with a wood box and then fiberglass, bondo etc. The box is water proofed and fits cans with a drain system tied into the front cups. Hope you all enjoy the pictures and I have a lot more if someone is interested.

Marc in Tucson

Marc, yes, you have a Canadian built GMC. Congratulations! Less than 3000 short box / half tons made in the Oshawa, Ontario plant in 1959.
Nice to see some are still out there!
