Dry time
I bought a new tailgate for my 65 Chevrolet. I painted it yesterday and was wondering how long it needs to air dry before I can put the Chevrolet decal on it. I don't want to do it too soon and mess up the paint. Any ideas? Thanks.

Re: Dry time
Several variables including temperature and type/brand of paint used.
It should be listed on the can. My best guess would be, if painted yesterday, by the time you are reading this it is ready. But I would read the label and go with the manufacturer's guidelines, maybe even calling their number. No real help. But good luck with the lettering. Be safe. Scott |

Re: Dry time
Thanks. The paint is single stage urethane and seems to be pretty dry. I may get time later today or maybe tomorrow. I wanted to do the lettering before I put it on the truck. It will be a little easier that way.

Re: Dry time
All urethane's enmitt gas as they dry.. Dry times can be 30 minutes to three hours or longer. Fully cured times which gas is still emitting can run up to seven days. I would wait another day or two before applying a large decal over a urethane surface. If gas is emitting from the coating and you block it off with a decal you could have bubbles and blistering.

Re: Dry time
honestly even the pro shops will tell you if they had the luxury of time, they would let their paint dry slowly for a couple of weeks
