Re: Newb asking for fender dent repair advice?

The rest of that rear fender looks about pristine. Don’t know that I’d do any pounding on it. Cut it out and make a new patch. C’mon Greg, be proud... link your work!

Re: Newb asking for fender dent repair advice?

progress pics of the driver side fender, I am not showing you this to brag, I know I suck I am learning, the point is that I want to show that I am not just a keyboard jockey or a couch potato but that I actually do things and try things, and break things, and mess stuff up, or sometimes I make them a little better, you get the idea

not making any excuses for my shady work, but I swear this fender is much straighter now despite how the shades, different colors, and the dirty marks make it appear to be in these pics, honest, it's what I call hammer and dolly ready, ha ha

Unfortunately it is not, it is mangles underneath right at the bottom bends, sorry not easily seen in the pics I posted.

Re: Newb asking for fender dent repair advice?

so my tools showed up and I must say I am a little bumbed, they are so small, toy like, here are some pics with my average size hands for reference, the hammer feels really light, not sure if it's supposed to be like that, maybe that's the whole point since you have to swing it a bazillion times, the handle is really short as well, much shorter than a regular hammer

for the money I spent on these $100 total I could have bought two Harbor Freight body hammer kits, ha ha, but I ain't complaining, I am learning, and just providing you all with some feedback, that's all, thank you for reading

Re: Newb asking for fender dent repair advice?

well since our leather sand bag won't be showing up any time soon, we move on to the inner front fenders

in order to mount my radiator core support bracket I need to flatten out these indentations, what are the best ways to go about it, I'm thinking of slicing a relief cut or two?

Re: Newb asking for fender dent repair advice?

with the cuts made, I did some hammering (aka the fun part) and saw the gaps close up and even buckle in some places - very interesting, shows the process is working

Re: Newb asking for fender dent repair advice?

then I welded them up, and here I observed an interesting phenomenon, the metal sunk down along the beads, I don't know if it was returning to it's original shape or if hot melted metal was being pulled down by gravity, all I know is that once completely nice and flat metal now became concave (FYI, I used more clamps than shown)

Seems like all the people that do metalwork are laid back easy going folks..I guess you have to be...
Me?..I'd have a scrap pile of metal as big as my shop...haha
