Truck's looking good! Check with your local offroad and 4x shops, get on pirate4x4.com and other forums for the rear jeep springs and you may find a free set.
I posted in a few "for sale" groups on facebook that are local, someone should have them close by. We do a good bit of glass work for a local shop that installs lift kits, they should have a set.

I picked up a pretty nice gas tank for $20 bucks today, and deluxe heater with inside air duct, controls, and cables for another $20. Not sure yet if I'll convert it to a deluxe heater or save that for Goldilocks.

Shot of the inside of the tank. I'll clean it with muriatic acid to get the rust out before installing it.

Also peeled back the newer seat covers to find that the original cover is still there. Hopefully the base is decent enough to live with, the vinyl cover that's on it is pretty nasty looking.

When you run the muriatic acid through the tanks are you coating the inside with anything after to prevent rust again ? I need to do a couple Suburban tanks.

After muriatic acid, I flush it with water and baking soda, them PPG DX 579 and DX520. Did a tank 9-10 years ago and it's still good.

Yeah, it just looks out of place on the truck.

Re: Winter Beater Build- '66 BBW Custom Short/Fleet with Heat!

Picked up a pair of free jeep springs today and also a fuel sending unit. Going to pull the seat, tank, and old fuel lines tomorrow after work.

This is the look I'm going for, except I'll keep the original caps.

Re: Winter Beater Build- '66 BBW Custom Short/Fleet with Heat!

Pulled the seat and tank tonight, then cleaned all the trash out... in the rain.

The interior is nasty, definitely my least favorite part of the truck. The floormat is in decent shape though, so I'll pilfer it and use it in Goldilocks until reproductions are made or I find a NOS mat.

Have you ordered all your Porterbuilt stuff yet? As I understand it that stuff takes a while to come in.

I'm not sure what you're taking about? The wait time on the Porterbuilt TJ mild rear drop kit was pretty short, had them only two days after I placed my order on Craigslist. I already had his "Choose Your Drop" front coil kit in the barn loft, lost the instructions that said "Cut X amount of coils for X amount of drop" though. Would appreciate if anybody could pm those ASAP!

Re: Winter Beater Build- '66 BBW Custom Short/Fleet with Heat!

I had the "Choose your drop" instructions on a PDF on my last computer but a bad beer accident nixed that. Sorry!
So you went with the TJ coils? I have heard so much either way about using them for a rear drop. Some have said they did a good drop, others said they didn't do anything. Almost everyone speaks of the loss of payload ability. I think its truck dependent. Meaning, how much the truck was used and what kind of sag it has. You truck looks to be in great shape and sits pretty high so it will be a good candidate to settle the TJ coil mystery once and for all. Take measurements!

Your truck looks like it is in pretty good shape overall. Get the few things done to it and then drive the wheels off of it...I hope to find one like it someday, good luck with your new find!

Re: Winter Beater Build- '66 BBW Custom Short/Fleet with Heat!

Worked on the fuel lines today and cleaned the tank.

We bought Eastwood's tubing flare set awhile back as haven't used it yet so I tried it out on the pump-to-carb line. Works great!

After bending, flaring, and installing line from the FLAPS.

New pump, flex lines, and filter.

Drying out the tank.

Found out why the shifter doesn't work...

I had my share, just didn't overdo it! Got to use the flare tool again today- well worth the money spent. It's the easiest way I've ever seen to flare lines. The truck does seem to be pretty unmolested, lots of original details all through the truck.

The filler neck and grommet came in today so I painted the tank and got it ready to install. Should have it in and running tonight.
