Computer updates and flash...? Washington state

Hey guys. I'm usually over in the 60-66 forum but I do have an S-10 blazer. The Blazer is a 2003 4x4 with a 4.3 in it. Heres my problem. The service engine soon light came awhile back and so I took it to Autozone so they could decode the problem. So it turned out to be a broken vaccum line which has been fixed. The light went off for a short time but now it is back on. It is my beleif that the gas cap may need replaced. So I will be doing that very soon. My question to you all is where should I look to have the computer updated and flashed and also about how much it might cost me. Any feedback on this will be great. By the way, I live near Walla Walla and the tricities in washington. Thanks in advance.

I installed factory fog lights in my Z71 and had to have the computer "flashed" to get them to work. When they flashed it it also did all the updates, etc. Dealer charged $80.

Re: Computer updates and flash...? Washington state

The check engine light in my 99 jimmy has been on for a few years now. it's the "evap code" same one as yours I think. I've tried a new gas cap, and had the charchol filter that the fuel tank vents into replaced. The dealer has looked at it a couple times, and can't find a problem. The light comes off and on mostly it's off in the summer and stays on all winter which makes me think that moisture is part of the problem. The truck runs great, so I just ignore it and haven't had any problems.

Re: Computer updates and flash...? Washington state

I was hopeing it would be cheaper than $80 but I kind of assumed it would run me about that much. And yeah my light is on and the blazer seems to run very well. Thats why I'm looking into haveing the computer flashed. I know that sometimes they just need to be reset after a problem had accured and has been fixed. Thanks guys.

It varies, some dealers are a little cheaper, some more, but overall, I thought it was a bit of a rip off for a 2 minute computer hook up

Re: Computer updates and flash...? Washington state

On emission codes, check the sensor under the battery. The famous emission leak is connected to the sensor and gas cap. I finally replaced my cap. No more problems.

As for updating your PCM, any 96 and later will accept some good updates. I had my PCM updated by www.wait4meperformance.com. Paid $86. I shipped the original PCM. I gained about 1 MPG in the city. The PCM was reprogrammed to lock the torque converter above 45 MPH. I don't know the gains on highway milage. I do know that at 80 MPH, the Jimmy easily pulled 20 MPG!!! I'm really curious about 70 MPH.
