high idle.
i have a 2001 blazer with a 4.3 v6 [vortec] that does not idle down during shifts 5spd.it seems like it takes a coupla seconds for it to fall down it wants to stay up around 1000 rpms before falling so you can shift.any ideas? wife complain bout it,it has bout 80,000 on it.

is the TPS voltage staying high? what is the actual/desired IAC counts? vacuum leak?

Mine does the same thing. I bought several books to help. I'm gonna need 'em anyway. Mine acts up more in traffic when it's hot though.

does it do it all the time or just while shifting. You can actually set you idle down but it's a complicated process. But I agree with 68c15. might need to check your TPS. It may be getting dirty and not going back to idle position as fast as it used to. Take it off and clean it, maybe some kinda of lube.

Mine is intermittant and doesn't seem to be tied to shifting. It is most noticable when I let my foot off the gas. It doesn't immediately idle down or decelerate as it should.

 I am smart A*& I know. It is the throttle position sensor. It usually located at the throttle body. I have to look to see if I can find a pic. That would easier than me trying to expalin where it is.

Here's a picture of a TPS.it is located on your throttle body.
But as I was looking. Does your truck have an accelerator cable?? If not it will have an accelerator postion sensor. It is located at the gas pedal. It too might be dirty, not telling the Computer, "HEY HIS FOOTS OFF THE GAS".

You might also want to take the EGR valve off and clean it. The pintle will get a chunk of carbon stuck in it and iw won't close.

The books that I bought say that as well. My truck only has 19,500 miles on it, so I cant imagine the TPS being bad already. The people I bought it from didn't drive it much or very hard. I'm sure its carboned up as well.
