Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

Sorry guys should have specified, I was just asking about white grill or not. I already have the Torch Red paint that I'm going to be using. The red in the renderings are actually the same just different lighting. I really love N2billets old truck Lucy with the white grill but also love all the ones I've seen all Red. Decisions Decisions

I like the white grill, I think it gives the front end a better look.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

My vote is all red.
The reason why is because if the grill is the only white part on the truck it feels disconnected and random.
Now if you had a cowl induction hood and striped it then it would make sense.

Truck is looking awesome! Paint work sucks. Of all the things I have done on my truck over the years painting is the part I hated the most. It is, however, a great sense of accomplishment when you get it done and know how much work went into it. Keep up the great work!

Also, I vote for all red as well.

This.

I'm going white grill inserts on mine but that's because mine is a base model with white bumpers and mirror. If my truck was a fleet it my goal would be nearly identical to the 1st rendering.

Yeah I also like the white top as well but don't know if I want to do that much of a two-tone.

If I did the grill white then I would also paint the tailgate letters white so it ties together, I have thought about doing the white top too but I'm scared of getting in over my head with a two-tone paint scheme being a rookie painter. Masking off the little area on the fenders to spray white would be easy but the roof just seems a little complicated because its a much larger area and the upper hoop of the doors would need to be sprayed as well.

I don't mind the painting but the bodywork and sanding sucks, every time I'm doing it I just say to myself this sucks but your right when I finally finish this truck I'll be really proud that I did 100% of everything myself and didn't farm anything out to somebody to do for me

Believe me I love the all Red too but it seems like every 67-68 fleet I see is like that. Part of me would like to do something different from the crowd but in the end I'll probably just end up spraying it solid Red to keep it simple.

My view on the red or white grille is all red will give you that hot rod look and running a white grille will give you that more original classic truck look. I vote white grille.

Keith, I think which ever way you go with the grille will look good. Do what ever makes you happy, that's what matters in the end.

Well I was in the patina trucks thread and saw where n2billet posted a couple of pics of Lucy. I'm sure you've seen it but the white grill looks great on that truck.

Thanks Jason, that's been the story of my build constantly changing things until I'm happy with it. It's not easy to change paint so I have to make sure I make the right choice.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

Well not a lot going on the last couple of weeks. I have been putting off blocking the cab out cause well sanding sucks I started blocking out the rear the other day and found a problem area that will need some attention. Looks like the area on the right side of the cab right above where my brother welded the patch in warped as it is bowed in. I don't know how I missed it but I did. Now I have to get the stud welder out and pull it some. I have also been working on putting some walls up in my garage so that I can paint in there over the winter without having to worry about where the overspray goes. I used 1x2" studs and wrapped heavy mil plastic around it. I then used duct tape to tape up all the seams and painters tape to tape the top and bottoms.
