Update....The LQ9 is getting stripped down for cleaning and painting.
Same goes for the 4L80E. 1 Qt High temp aluminum paint is on its way from Bill Hirsch. Still debating whether to brush it on on break out the TP tools HVLP painter....I will probably use that. |

Here is an update from paint jail.....
Front end is back on it. Wheel tubs from suicide doors arrived and will soon be welded in with notch cover. Roll pan needs to be fit up and welded up. I am thinking of taking it home just primered so we can do the install of the 6.0/4L80E, wiring, etc, etc and get it all working. Then tear down and final paint. |

Man...the truck is looking nice man !!! I can picture it now with some paint....gonna be nicer than Repo Steve's old Caddy for sure !!!
 When is your homeboy gonna weld in the tubs ?? I still say you should consider making the notch cover open....Would be real nice !! I hear you on taking it home to get to get it going...however, will it be easy to get it back in jail ?? Seriously looking nice, Rich.... John

rcrahn the truck sure is coming along, you are gonna love that LQ9, run smooth and have power, i would say to spray it though not brush it.

Update on recent work...
Bearclaw latches & poppers installed.....    Roll pan installed........  Wheel tubs & notch cover installed......    Inner fender skirts massaged to clear when front is fully lowered.....  Master Yoda...my nickname for my good friend and body shop owner - Barry.  Back at Master Yoda's shop with some air in it.....

 I will be stopping by later today to get that. Did you say 6 pack Corona or Bud lite? You know you need to watch the cals.....  Then I head off to see master yoda. This week his crew is finally re-starting the bed bodywork. All I can say is it must be really slow around the shop. LOL Can't really complain, they do good work and the price is right. Once the fleetsides are perfectly straight they'll remove the entire bed and cut/install this filler plate. Then primer the entire bed top and bottom. |

OK, the beer was delivered today to John, the part looks great and I visited the twilight zone - aka the bodyshop. Except this visit was different. Instead of walking in and seeing zero progress made I was delighted to see they actually took my suggestion to heart and thought big. For weeks they have dinked around with the left rear tail light area on the LWB fleetside. This bed was damaged in an accident and the tail light area was well, not very straight. I kept thinking this looks like crap.
So, I had these other fleetsides in the shop, already media blasted (this was the LWB bed with wood floor) and I tell them, "cut the bad metal out and replace what you need with that other fleetside piece". Go to work! To start, here is the donor panel  Here is the outcome so far...

I didn't see them do this but yes, I assume they 1st welded a support panel to the end of the cut fleetside (left) and then brought the patch panel in. So there is an overlaping panel behind. The other key thing they did is not cut or mess with the area where the tail gate bolts into the bed. So as not to compromise the support strength.
Here is a better shot. The center area has been hammered lower, they will grind down the welds and use a thin layer of filler to level it....
