How Much Does it Weigh?

3/4 ton = 1500 pounds.
Is that how much these old cab over campers weigh?

Re: How Much Does it Weigh?

I'm betting it weighs more than 1500lbs...the newer ones are heavy..weighing over 2k...there should be a sticker on it that tells its weight...but you also have to think dry weight vs loaded..
Is there a name on it?

Re: How Much Does it Weigh?

I'd bet that one, being an 8' floor of that era, would tip the scales at under 100# dry weight. It's just a 2x2 frame clad in aluminum with 1/4" paneling and some bead board or thin fiberglass insulation. Is the kitchen just a cooler, hand pump sink, and 3-burner? I bet a 1/2t could haul that one just fine

Re: How Much Does it Weigh?

I'll see if I can lift the front to get an idea. And I'll see if there's a tag on it. It's in a barn that no longer has vehicle access, so I'm wondering if 4 guys could move it. We only need to go about 25 to 50 feet.

Yeah, I'd guess about a thousand pounds. We have a 17' camper trailer and I don't think it weighs over 2K# and that's with the axle and frame. Anyway I never bothered hooking up the brakes.

BUT ... the trouble with those little cabovers is all the stuff you bring along. When I was a kid we had half tons with nice camper shells maybe 500# and by the time we built it inside and got all our stuff and people and dogs loaded it was right at the maximum C/10 GVW. That's why when I went out and bought my first pickup I got a 3/4 ton.

Re: How Much Does it Weigh?

i'd say well over a thousand.
my 8' camper is newer, but is also wood frame, paneling and aluminum.
empty weight is 740 kgs (a little over 1600 lbs)
the glass adds some good weight as do any appliances- stove, fridge, furnace, crapper, etc...

Re: How Much Does it Weigh?

Back around 1970-72 our next door neighbors had an eight foot cabover that they carried with a mid-sixties C/10 but I'm sure he had overload springs on it. They had two kids also, a girl about my age and a younger boy. Even back then I thought they were skating on thin ice with a half ton pickup but they apparently got away with it.

Possible, but not recommended // fake Russian accent

Re: How Much Does it Weigh?

I bet that its heavier than you think. Usually the older stuff is heavier. One thing to be aware of is the wieght tag. Thats not the actual wieght but an empty model with no options. In RVs everything seems to be an option. I have seen 5th wheels where the pin wieght was 1500 pounds over the tag before a single item was added! Good luck.
