C60 Cost

Hello fellow Chevrelatives! I am currently in the market for a C60, I would prefer a shell or something that doesn’t run so I can work on it with my father. I have found a 1964 C60 that hasn’t run in over 20 years, doesn’t seem to be too rusty and it’s not too far from me. The ad listed says $1800 and because of my inexperience with C60s and their prices, I’m not sure if it’s worth it. I wanted to know if that was a fair price or what would be a more reasonable price for a vehicle of that sorts. Thanks

It very well could be worth it, but it would be too hard to tell without actually seeing the truck itself. But pictures would help give us a better idea. Not having too much rust does sound pretty good for a start though.

These snub nose, (LCF) model's are more rare than your regular C-60.
$1800 doesn't seem so unfair, especially if it runs, looks pretty clean it the pictures.

I was thinking that 1800 isn’t a good asking price, since it hasn’t run in over 20 years and again it’s a project that I want to do with my father and I’m just trying to get the best price possible.

If $1800 is the asking price, I'm sure you can get it for $1200. I don't know the situation with the owner, I assume you spoke with him, in my eyes everything is negotiable

I agree. If you're not happy with $1800, offer $1200. That is if you are satisfied at having it for $1200. The Sheet Metal doesn't look bad as you have mentioned. Let us know more about the truck in the meantime. What Engine does it have, Trans, 2-Speed Rear or not, etc. Also does the Steel Bed dump?

By the way, it is an L-60 and not a C as 68panelman has mentioned. Keep us posted on it.

It has a 327, 4+2 trans, the bed dumps. The owner bought it with plans to do a pickup conversion but doesn’t have the time. I would like to do a pickup conversion too because that looks pretty bada** if you ask me lol. To me, 1800 isn’t bad but I just don’t want to pay more than what should be normal.

I paid $1700 for my 5000, ran like crap, no bed, cab was a mess inside (mice), no passenger door guts, bad brake system, the front end was way out of whack ETC. But the cab, sheet metal and frame are solid.

Myself, I think that LCF is worth up to $1800 especially if it just needs a good cleaning and mechanical going through. And assuming the tires still hold air, I wouldn'tve bought mine if they didn't...

Before and after about $4000 invested between bed, aux trans, and misc. parts.

Wow you did a good job, I really like it. I’m gonna go back and see what he says and then I’ll give the money. Now I have a question for you, what are you getting on gas. I know these things drink it like it’s water but I was wondering how bad lol.

The 327, 2-Speed Rear and the Dump Bed are all pluses. If I were looking for one, I would probably be willing to pay the $18 if I had to, but there again it won't hurt to offer $12. If he refuses, you can just try to compromise in the middle somewhere.

Just for a little extra info, if you want to do a Pick-up Conversion, be ready to spend a little money. They can get costly.

My opinion on the Gas Mileage, a good tuned 327 with some Hi-performance Mufflers in a truck like that driven appropriately should get about 8 to 10.

That’s not bad at all, and yeah it’s a project and money isn’t a problem for the time we plan on taking to get it done. Im just waiting to hear back from the guy and then hope all goes well. And one more question, what makes it an LCF and what’s so special about them? Again, I’m new to the big work truck scene and I’m trying to learn as much as possible.

This has the 351 GMC V6 (GMC had their own line of V6's ranging from 305 to 478 cubes). Around town it's not great, a rough guess is 6+/-, hard to tell. When I road tripped it loaded to a tractor show in June, I got 7-8mpg. Which for what it is, I was happy with that.

Someone may know more... the cabs on the LCF's were mounted farther forward over the engine to eek out more room for a body. I think the cab height was raised but don't hold me to it... they do look a bit taller.

Hopefully the deal goes through. If you go the oversized pickup route you'll have to scrounge up a good 60-66 bed. There ain't many here in NE...

Yeah the one big thing that sucks about being in the NE is the quality of stuff up here. Everything’s rusted out and they still want to charge an arm and a leg. Well as long as I don’t daily my project and project my daily, I think finding a good bed won’t be a problem because I’ll take all the time I need. And thanks so much for the advice, it means a lot. I’m young and I’m just trying to make my way into this and have fun with it.

I looked at a shot nose 1966.Not much room to work on the engine.I like the 1964--66 C60 long nose cus massive room Plus there are more of them out there
