Guys, Looking for some ideas on the best options for tie downs in our wood beds. We are working on a project for Christmas where I need to tie down a inflatable Santa. Any thoughts and/or examples would be appreciated. Thanks

They make stake pocket tie down, you don't need to drill holes. And cargo bars to tie to.

but those stake pocket tie downs will only fit on a flat bed rail - not like the 49 - 53 rails.
dont know how fancy you want to get but how about one of those track systems that would mount on the bed side and then the tie downs slide into the track?

I would think those anchors would work if you tried. Could be wrong. My 57 is a dump bed so no help there.

drill a hole in the center of a flat plate, weld a nut to a flat plate so the nut is centered over the hole, drill a couple of small holes around the edge of the plate so you can screw the plate on, screw it to the underside of the bed wood right under a predrilled hole. then screw a lifting eye through the hole into the plate when you need a tie down. that way you only see the hole in the wood, install a nice stainless body plug in the hole when not needed or maybe plug the hole with a nice little bolt you can screw in for decoration.
just a thought but it might work.

For that as long as you weren't going to drive down the highway with Santa standing in the back Cut to length pieces of wood cut to size so they just slipped in the stake pockets with some eye bolts through them a couple of inches above the bed rail would hold fine. It's not like you are strapping down a load of lumber for a road trip.

If you consider time, effort, and whether or not you want to make permanent changes, these magnetic tie downs could be a reasonable investment:

Of course you could go with something much cheaper like a fishing magnet but the challenge is removing it from any flat surface its attached to.

My ongoing truck projects: 48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six. 71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant. 77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.
