2004 Chevrolet 4X4 2500 long bed 2 door, are they good trucks?

Thought I’d ask the collective with all the knowledge...
I’ve owed one heck of a lot of trucks over the years but never a Chevy newer than a 1988.

I’m looking to buy this one and thought I’d ask opinions about it. It has the 6.0 engine with a automatic, one owner truck with 77,000 miles. I’ll drive it up to New England and bring my 87 4X4 Stepside home to TX. Anything to be wary of? The use will be light duty.
Thanks!

F ar as I know they are good solid trucks. Lots of my friends (farmers and contractors) run them and love them. 8 bazillion miles they seem to run if you care for them.

I’ve put 287k on my 2001 w/5.3 - same design engine. 99-06 are very reliable trucks in general. A 2500 w/6.0 will most likely have 4.10a if that matters to you. MPG won’t be anything to write home about.

I had a 2006 GMC 2500 4x4 6.0 I loved that truck, towed great,4x4 worked great, the only problem is when I towed over 10000 lbs,the 6.0 lacked in the passing department,I sold it and went with a duramax, but overall if you are light towing, like towing a car or 1/2 ton on a trailer,it worked great,we used a lot of these trucks in the plowing business, worked pretty good,if you are going to tow with it,put on the extentable towing mirrors, they helped a lot.

Re: 2004 Chevrolet 4X4 2500 long bed 2 door, are they good trucks?

I had a 2000, 2500 Silverado 4x4, regular cab, LB that I bought new. I did order the 4.10 rear gear for additional towing capacity. It was a great truck, the 6.0 liked fuel, usually 11-13 mpg. It didn't drop off much while towing, maybe 10mpg with a 24' enclosed behind it.
The 4L80 transmission is much stouter than the 1/2 tons. Power was ok, did drop off some with a load, but it got the job done. Main reason I got rid of it was the body started rusting, and then brake lines etc. In the 15 years I owned that truck it never burned a drop of oil, and I always used Synthetic from day 1.
I bought an 07 3500 classic body, 4x4 with the LBZ Duramax to replace it, for towing it is night and day difference. I really like the Body of these 99-early 07 trucks better than the newer stuff. Plus they can be bought reasonably!
Good luck

Revisiting this thread.... just got done talking to a turbo guru. I’m darn near sure a turbo is in my near future. Why? Just because it performs like a hoot and will put a big smile on my face....smiles are in short supply nowadays.

Looks clean, was it a Texas truck?

Very nice. You don't see many regular cabs anymore.
