Burnt up Battery
I acquired this amazing 68 last year and trying to get it started(and stopping) again. I'm a never ever resotoration. I might have burnt up the battery? I put new battery cables in and the ground from the frame that heads to the alternator smoked up and the positive cable to the battery was super hot, hot enough to melt plastic around the terminal. Was this a connection issue or do i need to re-wire the truck?

Sounds like it may be a connection issue. Make sure your big cable from the negative battery terminal to the engine block is good. Sounds like all the starting voltage tried to go through that small ground on the alternator.

the ground should go to the engine block or the alternator mount bracket i believe then the block should have a ground strap to the frame and one to the cab.
