Tailgate falling

I have a weird situation. My tailgate seems to close fine. There is no play in it when closed. I can really reef on it and it won't move. Yet, when driving with top down it sometimes randomly falls open, especially over some bumps. But again, it's completely random. Has anyone else had this issue? Any suggestions? Its the original tailgate.

Re: Tailgate falling

Could the tub be flexing enough to let it fall?

Re: Tailgate falling

Interesting thought. If so, any suggestions on how to fix that?

Re: Tailgate falling

Not really, I've only seen it happen on blazers used for off-roading...

Re: Tailgate falling

check your handle and make sure it is going all the way back down. Mine was doing that. I never tore it apart to fix it so I cannot tell you the cause. but i have to give my handle a little push when i close my tailgate. Handle moves a 1/4 inch if that but i can feel it lock in
