Re: My new project 86 Silverado

well i decided to not fill any of the small dings on my truck, i'm going to keep it just like i found it and keep the character of the truck... it had no body filler whatsoever... only a slight dent on the bottom of the front fender where the bumper got pushed back a bit on it... and a small dent on the back of the cab just to the right of the back window...
I sanded the crap out of it and removed all paint, and sprayed with black epoxy primer to fill all the small imperfections in the surface, but that is all the body work i'm doing other than spraying it with the flat black paint

more to come when the temp gets above the 10 degrees it is now

just a reminder here is how i got it...
and the look i am going for, but flat black...

Re: My new project 86 Silverado

No sadly it wasn't mine. That picture was taken at my house after we finished it. I helped build it years ago. He sold it a few years back. What do you want to know about it? I think there is a thread about it somewhere with more pics.

We used an 81-82 front bumper and a sport rear bumper from LMC. The front grille is also an 81.

Re: My new project 86 Silverado

didn't get a chance to go look at my buddy's truck, so i can figure out how the e-brake cables go over to the driver side to the equalizer...

been slacking a little i guess... not too motivated when the weather is cold... hurts my paratrooper bones LOL

will be focusing on the under dash items for a while(brake pedal, e-brake etc), get that all cleaned up so i can epoxy prime them and get it all installed....

i need to work on my steering column too... need a new steering wheel... any suggestions?
i'm going to need all new window motors, electric lock servo's etc. for the doors... rusted all to hell from sitting 14 years LOL. looks like another order to make

GRRRRR... also one of my vent windows is broken and mangled, man i know those things are expensive, but i'll need it

will update as i go along.

i have all my lights, lenses etc. etc. i'll post pics of all that soon

anyone have thoughts on an entry level mig welder? one that's easy to learn on, and that isn't too horribly expensive

Re: My new project 86 Silverado

About 17 years ago I went to Lowes. (Eagle?) and picked up a 110V Lincoln
I really like it. I could upgrade. I have yet to feel the need.
(that day will come LOL)

I'd have to agree, argon gas is a protective layer from oxygen, which can at a moleculor level cataminate the arc and make it weaker. However there is other migs like the chicago electric 90 amp flux core from harbor frieght, which comes with the wire ect. But I'd like a argon wire feed over this any day, just a lot cheaper. Don't get me wrong, settings and stuff are excellent, doing welds aren't hard but keeping a beed going is the tough part since its non gas mig, and oxygen disrupts the arc
