Re: My Build - PROJECT "CREW CHIEF"

As always it's a "slow roll" for this project. Setbacks n such but it will be all worth the time n effort. Not going for show or full restore but progress is progress...

Painted the new motor a while back with POR-15 silver then their Chevy orange top coat which did not cover well. Took the motor down to bare metal and started over. Again I did not like the results. So I scuffed down to the silver base n used rattle can Dupli-Color high temp for the orange topcoat. This I like!

Frame rails got 2 coats of the POR-15 gloss black and dusted with satin black rattle can. Firewall was treated with the same satin black. Will worry bout filling fire wall holes when I do body work at a later stage.

Cross member and front suspension is clean but will only get quick rattle can job. No $$ for the disc brake upgrade at the moment and the beast needs to get back on the road for a bit. So it is what it is - for now....

Will proceed with the motor bolt-on's this weekend. then to start work on the long stepside bed I picked up recently for a few pennies!

Man, that is one cool pickup! I must say that yours is the first crew cab 60-66 I have seen, and I love it. Can't wait to see the progress of your ride.

Re: My Build - FINALLY...

Norm,

The stepside will make it real different. I would turn the fleetside into a trailer to load the Indian into. That would look real cool!

Re: My Build - FINALLY...

Though I had a block rebuilt - it was closer to stock than I wanted. So I swapped out the current cam (still new) to a larger one complete the e-brock package yesterday - 6/20. Will use the removed cam in my old motor for a pre 55' Chevy car project down the line.

Also did a test fit of some the exterior stuff. Need a few more items and this baby will be ready to go home in the rails of my Crewie

Re: My Build - FINALLY...

My CrewCab is ALIVE - again! I finally fired up the new motor last night. Will clean up the "doghouse" this week so I can start reassembly and get this back on the road. Need some break miles before I head to NorCal for Billet Proof show on 9/19-9/20. Pic of motor a few min before I fired it up.

Thanks Capt! Not yet - I just fired it up n shut it down. Will do REAL break-in when I have all water and electrical buttoned up. Tomorrow perhaps.

Today I've been up since 6am and busy into the night. Got home from work @ 7pm, mounted the water neck, cut and fit the stainless radiator hoses, bolted up different alt brackets - btw I will have a chrome 1 wire alt soon. Tomorrow I clean up the wire harness's. They are now fixed but need to be "dressed". As always there's more to this story - tomorrow. Nite Y'all!

Re: My Build - FINALLY...

Last week of July: I worked on correcting the engine wire harness that was butchered by previous owner. Sure glad he used a lot of e-tape! No solder or connectors was used used long ago. I had another harness - near mint condition that I used to add or replace existing incorrect wires. All is taped up nice n neat an hooked up minus the temp sensor wiire. Also cleaned up the heater box n engine compartment. Did a good but quick job of it. Will worry bout perfection on the sheetmetal when I attack the body work down the line. Right now motor swap n drive train is priority.. Here are a few before n after shots....

Re: My Build - FINALLY...

I really like the step bed on the crew cab, breaks up the long look of the bodylines. Engine looks killer! I may have "borrow" your painting idea with those valve covers. They are the same ones I want to put on my 63 to match the fins on my shotgun intake.
