1960 Chevy Truck "Viking 10"

Update and new plans:
We just got a 63 c60 that is nearly rust free so we are going to use most of the sheet metal except for the hood and grill. We are going to use the short bed and all the custom trim. The drive train will consist of a 1977 Chevy frame that was completely rebuilt and lowered. The wheels on the frame right now are 15"x7" on the front and 15"x12" on the rear but that is going to change. The engine is a built 454. The transmission is a rebuilt th400.

Check post #19 for pics of c60

Re: 1960 Chevy Truck "stock looking hot rod"

Welcome and very cool project you have planned.

Do you already have the original trim? It can be elusive to find.

Looking forward to updates on the build!!!!

Yep we got the trim. We just have to find the grill and a v8 hood emblem.

Re: 1960 Chevy Truck "stock looking hot rod"

Very cool. I'm in the process of two builds (63's stepside and fleetside) and will be using the 1960 trim on my fleetside also. By far one of the hardest things I had to source for either build.

I did put a complete set of the back cab trim together for both trucks and have a almost complete set of trim for my fleetside. Just need one more door piece is needed at this point.

I like the resto mod theme as its what I like also. Stock look and plenty of upgrades under the hood for safety and speed of course!!!

Re: 1960 Chevy Truck "stock looking hot rod"

The v8 emblems and grills do pop up from time to time. Just saw a 6 cyl bowtie on ebay the other day, which they don't pop up that often either.

Might not hurt to post a want to buy in the classifieds here also.

Re: 1960 Chevy Truck "stock looking hot rod"

Been a while so here is an update. We picked up a parts truck with a cab in a lot better shape a while back. It just needs rockers and a small floor repair. It is a gmc cab with a small window so we had to remove the small window panel and dash. Then we removed the chevy dash and big window panel from the other cab. After that we sand blasted and epoxy primed it. Pics to follow.

Re: 1960 Chevy Truck "stock looking hot rod"

cab is interesting.. what was it off of? I see a 62-63 heater hole, and the inboard 63 style front cab mounts, but it is still set up for the hydraulic clutch like the early trucks?

regardless of that looks like a great cab to start with.

have you researched how these trucks fit on the 73-87 frame?

captain fab suggests against it because you get the equivalent of about a 4 inch body lift in order to clear the rear cross member.
however there was one member that did a build on a 73-87 suburban frame that came out ok, I don't think he was going for a lowered look though.

interesting to see how this turns out. I love the look of the gold and white with the custom trim.

It is a 63 cab. I thought the hydraulic clutch was unusual also. It was an auto truck so it had a plug in the hole. I have read about the body lift but the frame was already lowered so that will compensate for most of it. The only reason for using the frame is that is already done.
I like the gold and white as well and will be one of the few with the combo.

I am currently hoping to find a whole truck with the ornament for 2X that I keep looking c/l hoping a v8 60 series will turn up cheap.

I've been looking for a while to and finally came across a school bus on craigslist. He wanted to sell the whole bus but when we offered $100 for the emblem he took it.

I think the 15x7's are 235 60 r15 and the 15x12's are 295 50 r15. That's cool. I'm not sure what backspacing ours are.
