My 62' c10 build

Ok this is my first build ever with little knowledge about working on cars. I the car at what I thought was a good deal but now starting to wonder. M friend gave me a 454 big block to work with that I will slowly be building. I plan on changing front end to newer front end I have been looking at suburban front end. The back end I don't even think belonged to this truck it seems to be mounted wrong. So I need to see what my options are with the backend with what I can put in their. Im getting it down to chasis and wanna get that done right. I want disc all the way around and air bags but no sure if that's in my budget. I need all the help and advice I can get.

Re: My 62' c10 build

nice. are those air shocks on the rear? my dads Plymouth had them when he bought it and they leaked bad. we would pump them up really high before we went out cruising and would return looking like a lowrider

And a picture from behind the truck now since your bed is off. Its looks like the rear springs are pulled out to the trail arms. If I'm not mistaken the trail arms and frame shud be straight up and down where the springs bolt up.

Well that's the plan but $$$ might be an issue. I just want to get the chasis all figured out.

Re: My 62' c10 build

Does anyone know where or if there is a spec sheet for the 62' chasis. Trying to find something that has all the measurements and stuff so I know what goes where and so I can remove unnecessary add on from previous owners

Re: My 62' c10 build

So I finally found a crossmember setup for my swap hopefully it works. It's from a 85' 1/2 suburban. I didn't get the gear box not sure if that is a big issue or not.

Re: My 62' c10 build

My 62 frame seems to have a ton of things added a holes so I found this chassis and what I think is a Ford 9" for $50.00. The frame looks pretty good . Can anyone confirm if that looks like a ford9

The frt suspension donor you got will work.Just gotta get the adapter plate's for a gear box.My 60 has a modified "x" frame also.Your suspension from the previous owners is not a usual mod though they may of had some street road history as earlier years rear axle's where hung that way.You could bag it easily if that's your goal.

Re: My 62' c10 build

I don't think they made a 6 lug ford 9 inch rears.

mabe its a 60 or 61 chevy truck rear.

im not shore what year chevy stopped putting pumpkin type rears in the trucks.

the full size chevy cars used pumpkin style rears up to 1964.
the 1965 cars had a bolt on rear cover.

Re: My 62' c10 build

A couple more pics of backend. Any thought on this one being better then the 12 bolt from previous pics.? On this one it at least the trailing arm mounts line up where they should be.

This is an eaton ho32 and most likely has a 3.90 ratio. 60-62 c10's came with these. There is nothing wrong with them at all except that finding parts can be difficult
