I work nights, so when I have a project in the shop I just keep my night work schedule. I can get alot more done when my pile of kids are sleeping!

Will be on my way up with another tailgate this afternoon! Jayson found previous bodywork on the current one. Then, I’ll get another lesson on painting!

Mike came up this evening, delivered a nicer tailgate, and then we did a final sand on the box and got her painted up! It turned out great.

Re: Dad's 1979 GMC Heavy Half Transformation

Finished up with sanding and buffing the box, got the hood sanded and buffed, and got the bumpers installed. When Mike gets here Friday he will give me a hand getting the trim on the box installed. The list is getting short!!

Re: Dad's 1979 GMC Heavy Half Transformation

Tonight I pulled the grille down from the wall and started to get it cleaned up for some new paint. Hopefully tomorrow I can get it finished?? I'll need to bring it up to Jayson's on Friday so we can install it. This thing was extremely filthy, will still need some some elbow grease!

Any ideas on what color to use on the GMC??? Come GMachinz, what off-the-shelf color will work?

Thanks Mike

Re: Dad's 1979 GMC Heavy Half Transformation

I'm leaning toward the Allis Chalmers Orange???? I have three of these GMC emblems and they all look a bit orange, could be faded read??? Thoughts?

Thanks Mike

Re: Dad's 1979 GMC Heavy Half Transformation

I think it's more of a red with a little bit of orange. Might try Chevy red/orange engine paint...or Massey Ferguson red.

Re: Dad's 1979 GMC Heavy Half Transformation

The orange is not correct, it would clash with the red of the hood ornament.

Look at post #340, 345, 353. Not the same year model truck, but might give you some reference...

I’d match the reddish/orange of your hood ornament.

Bam! Good enough! Yes, I dinked the upper left corner, I'll fix it. I used 1/16th tape first, then the blue tape. Thanks for all the help fella's!

Looks good. Here’s one of my NOS ones-imo it’s more of a red than orange so I think you matched it up pretty well!
