Portrait vs landscape pics
When I take pics in portrait mode, on my PC, they display in portrait but when I post them to the forum they come out in landscape - having been rotated ccw 90º. Even if I rotate them 90º clockwise on my PC they still come out in landscape mode on the forum.
What do I have to do to make them come out portrait on the forum?

Re: Portrait vs landscape pics
Save them to a different file than what you originally had them in after changing the direction of them so that they are no longer associated with the camera file. Some of them have auto files that will kick it back to the direction taken from the camera

Re: Portrait vs landscape pics
I took the original pic, opened it with windows paint, saved it as png, loaded onto my post. And its now correct.
If that's the only way to overcome the problem, it certainly is a rather cumbersome method of posting pics, so much so, that I think I'll just keep posting originals even if they come out wrong. Or I'll take all pics in landscape mode, even if portrait would have been more sensible.

Another way you might try is to go to the folder where your pictures are stored, highlight the picture you want to post on the board, RIGHT click on it and select properties at the bottom of the window. When the properties window comes up click on the "Details" tab. At the bottom of that window should be "Remove Properties And Personal Information". Click on that and see if it will let you remove the data. Then when you rotate the picture it should stay that way when it is posted. If you try it let us know if it works for you. LockDoc

Re: Portrait vs landscape pics
.
There are lots of variables...but...what I do is right click the image thumbnail and select "rotate clockwise" or "rotate counterclockwise" whichever is appropriate. I took a copy of your image from the thread referenced above and did exactly that then uploaded it back to your thread. I did note that all the data was removed just as you had mentioned. EDIT: even if the image appears to be correctly oriented, go ahead and rotate it out of kilter and then back to "set" it where you want it. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=1#post8711872 Hth, -klb

Re: Portrait vs landscape pics
one way is to turn off your auto-rotating thinigie on your phone/tablet. It will then show it as it was taken. Now you can orient it the way you want with your editor. Also remember, most camera/phone pictures are too large for the board software, so you'll need to downsize/resize the image to about 1024/768 or smaller.

Doing it that way may not remove ALL of the properties. Did you rotate the picture before or after you made the copy? LockDoc

Re: Portrait vs landscape pics
OK, to be sure I'm going to try again.
I do find it a bit sad that this forum can not handle something that should be so basic. I'm active on several other forums where this problem does not exist, so surely it be possible for this forum sw to handle both portrait and landscape without complications?

Re: Portrait vs landscape pics
Now the copy with all properties removed, rotated to ccw to landscape then rotated cw back to portrait

Re: Portrait vs landscape pics
Now the Original portrait pic (no properties removed), opened with MS Paint, saved as PNG (which INCREASES the file size from 2.8Mb to 10Mb). The forum would not upload this file (security token missing).
I then used Easy Thumbnails to reduce the size, still saving it as png (now 700Kb)

I wonder about the "all possible properties removed". Maybe by making a copy it can't remove all of the properties and that is why it says "all possible properties". Did you try it the way I suggested in post #4? Not saying it will make a difference but it's easy to try. If that doesn't work then I guess I don't know. I usually use my regular camera to take pictures and I don't have any problem no matter which way I take the pictures with that. LockDoc

Re: Portrait vs landscape pics
I take all my pics with the phone in the "portrait" position. When they are saved to my laptop, sometimes they are upright, sometimes not. I usually crop them using MSPaint to get the dancing girls and such out of the picture and save them with a new name. This always results in an upright picture, wherever I post.
