Replacing Floor Covering?

At some point in the future I will be needing to replace my high hump rubber floor covering in my '71 4x4. Due to the fact I am converting my stickshift
4x4 to auto 4x4. About 7 or 8 years ago I purchased a replacement high hump rubber mat which was an identical look alike for my old torn up original. Course I don't recall the mfg. on the box and the local business I bought it from is gone now. Since I will no longer have the stick on the floor need to replace the mat. Have read a few posts about members not being satisfied with the replacements recently purchased, as in not lasting and cracking in various areas after short term of use.

Any thoughts or experience with going rubber again with the new replacement mats? Bear in mind I need a high hump due to truck being a 4x4.
Have even given consideration to perhaps carpet this time, just not sure about that.

Re: Replacing Floor Covering?

I'm probably the one you heard talking about the cracking mats. I'll never buy another one unless they can guarantee against dry rot!

If your going to keep your truck for anything more than a year, you would be better off finding some other type of floor covering. Unless you want to keep replacing it at $85 bucks a pop over and over and over... That's what the vendors would like I'm sure. Perhaps that's why no one ever does anything about lousy parts such as this one, repeat purchases?

Re: Replacing Floor Covering?

I believe your posting about the rubber mat not holding up is the one I referred to. I wish I could remember the mfg. of the one I currently have for my floor shift truck. It looks exactly like the old torn up original I removed, same texture and ribbing/pebbling. Back then I did not think to look at the mfg. name on the box. Now changing over to an automatic I wll be needing to replace the mat and just hate the thought of buying a cheap short lived replacement. Have been even thinking of going carpet but I like the ease of cleaning the floor with the rubber mat.

Re: Replacing Floor Covering?

Gary, contact Ron Mane, from Manes truck parts. He will have a stand down in Wichita, might be able to bring one down there for you. He is located over in the bigger building from where you are. Just a thought. Thanks Randy

Re: Replacing Floor Covering?

Mornin' Randy, Yeah, thought I would check with Mane's while at the swap meet. Have bought a few things from them before. Seem like pretty nice outfit to deal with. You gonna' be able to make the swap meet, looks like great weather for it considering it is Feb.

Re: Replacing Floor Covering?

Ron buys alot of parts from me, never had any problems at all with him, super nice guy. I'm still going to try, I'm supposed to be running the golf course that day, was hoping the weather would atleast be cold so I wouldn't have any business and could sneak away. I may have to bring in some help for a day

Re: Replacing Floor Covering?

They are only one company that makes these mats in the good ole USA but the process and equiment is old and I was told it was a hard process to do. But they are cheap compared to carpet I am getting ready to put one in my project truck!

Re: Replacing Floor Covering?

Interesting Tim, can you enlighten me some more on the rubber mat? Really prefer it over carpet in a truck. Do you carry them or who is the vender for them.

Re: Replacing Floor Covering?

We don't carry them. They are very close to orginal in my opnion. I know Brothers use to sell them You might try Kennys Truck Parts or Daves Truck Parts. I know Dave use to stock them.

Re: Replacing Floor Covering?

Thanks Tim, will check into that. Any idea of the actual mfg. so I know what brand to ask for. Wish I would have written down the mfg. of my current floor mat. VERY satisfied with it but by changing to the auto trans it will sure leave an ugly hole in the center of the trans hump.

Re: Replacing Floor Covering?

Got the 3 (regrettably) I bought from Classic parts but they had no manufacturers name on them. Just folded up and placed in the shipping box.
